latinconferenceThe International Parking Institute will be hosting its first IPI Latin Parking Conference, an "Overview of Emerging Trends and Technologies,"  December 1-2, 2011 in Miami, Fla. This conference combines presentations, seminars and tours of parking operations in the City of Miami and Miami Beach, Fla.

In its efforts to continue expanding its international outreach, IPI will deliver content applicable to the parking professional in Latin America as it pertains to Emerging Trends & Technologies. IPI and Abrapark Partner to Advance the Parking Profession in Brazil

abraparklogoThe International Parking Institute is partnering with the Brazilian Parking Association (Abrapark) to offer training seminars for Abrapark's annual meeting,  to be held November 23, 2011 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. This meeting coincides with Expo Parking. IPI will provide an introduction of parking topics and best practices to a diverse audience from the private and public sector, including parking operators and government officials.  Training will include an Overview of Parking, New Parking Technology and its Uses, Access and Revenue Control Systems, Communicating with Customers/Conflict Management, and Special Event Parking Management.

IPI Chair Casey Jones, CAPP, and IPI Executive Director Shawn Conrad, CAE, are being featured in Parking Brasil, Abrapark's trade magazine, which will be distributed throughout the Sao Paulo event. IPI is very excited about this new venture and is looking forward to a long standing relationship with the Brazilian Parking Association.

Enforcement Seminar, Another CAPP Success!

Sixty parking professionals took advantage of the most recent CAPP seminar offering, Enforcement: On- & Off-Street, which was held last Thursday and Friday in Pittsburgh, Pa. In two days, they learned about the latest information in planning, evaluating and assessing the need for enforcement programs; how to evaluate officers and improve productivity; how to work with your their local DMV offices to track down scofflaws and monitor disability plates and placards; program promotion, quality service and constituency building; and adjudication practices.

We welcomed back Roamy Valera, CAPP, vice president, SP Plus Municipal Services, and Stephen Hittman, chief operating officer and Jennifer Rentz, national director of business operations, Complus Data Innovations, Inc., as the instructors for this course. They were very well-received and provided a wealth of information for attendees.

The next CAPP offering will be the two-day seminar, Parking Facility Design, Rehabilitation and Maintenance, to be held in early February 2012. Details will be announced soon.

IPI's Event Planning Webinar Showed the Ropes

eventsignDon Jordan, V.P. Operations, SP Plus Gameday, presented the webinar Keys to Successful Event Parking: from Planning to Follow Up earlier this month. Don relied on his 20-plus years in transportation and logistics across North America and Europe to walk participants through the basics of building and executing an integrated parking and traffic plan for special events at many types of venues. He made note that the top two reasons for patrons to not return to an event are: 1. Transportation and 2. Parking (interestingly, price is #5), and then he went into detail on the seven elements of event transportation. Don highlighted case studies such as the 2008 Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., which occurred after a week's worth of rain, and a special Jimmy Buffett concert on the beach of Gulf Shores, Ala., which was not a normal accessible concert venue.
