It's State and Regional Association Conference Season

The fall season is a great time of year for parking professionals as it is the time when a majority of state and regional parking association hold their annual conferences and shows. Eleven are scheduled during the last four months of the year. IMC 2012 Changes Affect Parking Garage Exhaust Systems

Oct2011coverMonumental changes to the International Mechanical Code (IMC) relating to parking garage exhaust systems are evident with the release of IMC 2012, released earlier this year. Before we delve into these changes, we need to understand who develops the code and its importance to us. Once the proper perspective on the IMC authors is established, we need to look at local code adoption. Although the code is changing, your local authorities may not adopt it in the near future. In my evaluation of the Texas parking garage market, I found versions of the code dating back to the year 2000. Due to the wide array of mechanical codes nationally, I will illustrate the evolution of the code and its effect on parking garage design considerations. Finally, I will discuss changes set forth in IMC 2012 so we can embrace them and effectively incorporate them into our designs.

Parking Matters: Washington Post This Week: "Companies Hit Throttle on Parking"

One good media success leads to another. This week the Washington Post published a feature article headlined: Companies Hit Throttle on High-Tech Parking in their Capital Business report. A very positive piece on parking technology focused on the District's contract with IPI member ParkMobile earlier this year, which included the installation of 17,000 meters and already has more than 100,000 account holders. Also quoted are IPI Chairman Casey Jones, CAPP, who provided industry-wide perspective and the important message that parking is about more than parking - it's also about mobility management. Read the article here.

The inspiration for the Washington Post article was likely the IPI's nationally distributed Parking Industry Responds to the "IBM Global Parking Survey" news release which you can read here. The news release includes a link to the original IBM news and survey in case you missed it. We hope this release provides language and talking points for you to use in conversations with non-parking professionals.
