IPI & Parking Featured on msnbc.com

IPI Chair Casey Jones, CAPP, served as a resource and was quoted extensively in an msnbc.com report on parking that appeared today. This is a good example of how IPI's Parking Matters program is working to educate and create awareness about parking positives. Bob Sullivan, investigative reporter and consumerist and the voice behind msnbc.com's Red Tape Chronicles blog, performs an important public service by revealing "corporate sneakiness, government waste, technology run amok, and outright scams," but his report on parking was overall quite positive and revealed-we like to think--his newfound appreciation for parking, highlighting advances in technology and parking professionals' focus on improving the consumer experience. Read the full article.

IPI Executive Committee Meets

The IPI Executive Committee met in Portland, Ore. to discuss several topics as the organization's new fiscal year begins. The committee members were excited to see the overwhelming interest from IPI members in volunteering their time and talents with the organization to serve on an IPI committee. The volunteer committee appointments were determined and will be announced in the coming weeks. The Executive Committee also considered several  new exciting opportunities to advance the mission of IPI in the coming weeks and months which will be announced in future IPInsiders. Under the direction of IPI's enthusiastic leadership, the 2011/2012 year is shaping up to be a great one.

IPI's Next Webinar: The Secrets to Hartford's Successful Parking Ticket Amnesty Program

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM EDT

Instructor: Carey E. Redd, CAPP, Associate Director, Hartford Parking Authority

The City of Hartford and the Hartford Parking Authority conducted an amnesty program between March 1 and March 31, 2011. The amnesty revenue generated was 185 percent of forecast. The city collected $376,323 in net revenue versus a forecast of $200,000.

The success of the program was attributed to:

1. Research, development, and strategy to fully vet, create, and implement an Amnesty Program.

2. Marketing campaign using television, radio, and print media to get the word out.

3. Having Hartford's mayor take the leadership role for the program instead of the Hartford Parking Authority.

4. Presenting the program as a win-win for registrants, motorists, and the city.

5. Define the key message(s) to enthuse registrants and motorists to voluntarily pay.

Participate in this webinar to learn the secrets behind the City of Hartford's program and ways how your operation can successfully implement an amnesty program to provide much needed revenue.

Good Month for Parking Matters in Canada

Parking Matters In addition to sharing the Parking Matters program at the World Parking Symposium in Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada a few weeks ago, there's been a flurry of favorable media coverage in Canada. The summer issue of Canada's Government Buyer magazine features our article, "Parking Options for Cities: Products and advances in technology offer new systems for municipalities to consider."

An article in Canadian Property Management magazine's May/June issue focuses on sustainable parking solutions and new technologies, citing IPI's Emerging Trends Survey released in May, and quoting past and present IPI Chairs Cindy Campbell and Casey Jones, CAPP. Last but not least, the Canadian Public Broadcasting Radio Station, CBC interviewed Dennis Burns, CAPP, about parking meter technology and more - have a listen. (A Facebook account is necessary to hear the interview.)
