Bodegas Maurodos's 2008 Prima is 95% Tinta de Toro and 5% Garnacha
aged for 12 months in seasoned French and American oak and bottled without
filtration. Purple-colored, it displays a nose of cedar, spice box, violets,
mineral, and blackberry. On the palate it is juicy, succulent, and concentrated,
leading to a seamless finish. Drink this outstanding value over the next 6
years.
Bodegas Abanico's 2009 Tempestad Godello reflects the outstanding character
of the 2009 vintage in Valdeorras. Medium straw-colored, a super-expressive
perfume of baking spices, peach, and fruit cocktail leaps from the glass of this
intense effort. Rich, concentrated, and with serious depth, this dry, creamy,
savory offering has exceptional length and should drink well for another 3-4
years.

Bodegas Arrocal's purple-colored 2008 Arrocal is 100% Tinto Fino
(Tempranillo) aged for 8 months in French and American oak before bottling
without filtration. Aromas of cedar, spice box, mineral, leather, and black fruits
gives way to a surprisingly dense, intense, and savory wine that over-delivers
for its humble price. It is a great value for drinking over the next 5 years.

The N.V. Cava de Duero Brut Nature is composed of 50% Viura and 50% White
Tempranillo (Albillo), a very different cepage than Penedes Cava. The fruit is
sourced from estate vineyards with the Viura vines ranging in age from 60-180
years. It was aged for 25 months on its lees with no dosage. Medium straw-
colored, it displays tiny bubbles, aromas of biscuit, mineral, baked apple, and
white peach. Dry and concentrated on the palate with a solid core of creamy
fruit, this lengthy sparkling wine possesses serious Champagne character. It is
a great value. Bodegas Finca Torremilanos is well known for its red wines but it
also makes a very fine Cava.

The 2007 Vina Honda is composed of 60% Monastrell, 20% Tempranillo, 10%
Syrah, and 10% Merlot raised in tank. Aromas of blueberry, black cherry, and
plum lead to a supple, ripe, easy-going, seamless wine with no hard edges and
a lengthy finish. Drink this crowd-pleaser over the next 2-3 years.
