Stop & Go Drill
   
Today we will work on keeping our playing consistent while changing the focus of our movement.
 
Before you start... 
  •  You can use whichever rhythm you are currently working on mastering.
  • You will need either a rhythm track or a metronome set at a suitable pace for your current playing ability.
  • You may want to think up a few movement components before you start, or you can pick on the fly. You will need some arm paths and some travelling steps.
 
The Drill 
With examples from easiest to more challenging
  • Alternate 8 counts shimmy in place with 8 counts basic travelling step, or walking.
  • Alternate 8 counts shimmy in place with arms moving in a path with travelling step that layers an isolation or shimmy
  • Alternate 8 counts shimmy with layered movement + arms with 8 counts of layered traveling + arms

    Oh...and remember to keep that stepping in pace with the dums! <wink>
