Saturday's Stretch Tip
Posture, Posture, Posture!
A performance that has amazing hip technique, fabulous musical expression and great zill playing can still be sunk by lack-lustre upper body carriage.
Great upper body posture conveys confidence and grace. A few elements work together for this to happen...
-
Flexibility across the front of the chest and shoulders
-
A strong upper back
-
Shoulders muscles with the endurance to hold arms up.
-
Shoulders that stay where you want them
Today let's work on opening the front of the chest.
Not for people with shoulder problems!
-
Stand about 6" in front of an open doorway and place hands on the frame a little above shoulder height.
- GENTLY lean into the doorway and hold (no bouncing!) for 15-30 seconds.
- Move hands up the frame to head height and repeat.
- Move hands down to hip height and step forward a bit, then lean in and repeat.
Forward this to a fellow dancer and help them be an inch taller! |
