Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse
MOC Award Recipient
 |
We had another successful Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In event and we celebrated the 10th year of State and Tribal Wildlife Grant funding. We reflected on what we've accomplished and how this program has been successful in increasing the capacity of state fish and wildlife agencies and their partners to conserve at-risk wildlife-we've certainly come a long way. Now our work turns to gathering signatures on the Senate and House Dear Colleague letters. As most of you know we do Dear Colleague Letters to appropriators each year to demonstrate support for the State and Tribal Wildlife Grants program. The more members that sign on, the better our chances of securing funding for the program. This year we are requesting $100 million (House) and $90 million (Senate) for FY11 and a reduction in the nonfederal match requirement. As your state's coalition leader please help ensure that every member of the House and Senate has an opportunity to sign on to the letter. |
SENATE & HOUSE DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTERS-
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED Each year, the Teaming With Wildlife coalition works with members of Congress to circulate a "Dear Colleague" letter supporting an appropriation for the State Wildlife Grants Program. This year letters are being circulated by Senators Blanche Lincoln (AR) and Mike Crapo (ID) and Congressmen Mike Thompson (CA), Ron Kind (WI) and Frank LoBiondo (NJ). In the House, the request is for $100 million and a reduction in the nonfederal match requirement from 50% to 35%. In the Senate, the request is for $90 million (same as last year) and a reduction in the nonfederal match requirement from 50% to 35%. We need to get as many members to sign on to these letters as possible. Last year over 140 members signed on. HOW YOU CAN HELP-Please call your members of Congress (202-224-3121), ask to be connected to your member and then the staff member who handles environmental issues. Convey to the staff member or leave a message that you would appreciate it if your member signed on to the Dear Colleague Letter supporting funding for the State Wildlife Grants Program in FY11. Copies of both letters and a list of members who have signed on are available at www.teaming.com. We are hearing that member offices want to hear directly from constituents in this very difficult budget climate. You can also obtain contact information for your member at www.senate.gov or www.house.gov. |
