Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In: Our Signature Event

On February 23rd - 24th, the annual Teaming With Wildlife Fly-in will be held in Washington DC. The Fly-in serves as the signature event of the coalition and brings coalition members from around the country to Washington to meet with congressional staff to discuss the need for funding for state (State Wildlife Action Plans). Participants will receive training, are provided networking opportunities with their colleagues and attend the annual Teaming With Wildlife Reception where awards are given to members of Congress and outstanding state agencies, partners, and coalition members.
Our success in securing $90 million for the State Wildlife Grants Program for FY10 is directly attributable to the success of last year's Fly-in. In addition to State Wildlife Grants coalition members will also be advocating for passage of the Teaming With Wildlife Act (S655) and for natural resources adaptation funding. Please consider participating in the 2010 Fly-in or collaborating with other coalition members to ensure someone is able to represent your state at the Fly-in this year. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact Liz Skipper (lskipper@fishwildlife.org).
You can access registration information online at http://www.teaming.com/2010_fly_in_event/registration.html. The deadline for registration is February 15, 2010. The registration fee is $65.00 per individual to help cover meeting costs.
We have booked a block of sleeping rooms at a nearby Liaison Hotel, which is located at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW, Washington DC. The rate for this block of room is $229.00 a night plus tax. This is well below the government per diem rate for DC. There are a few city wide meetings at the same time as ours so please book your room as soon as possible. The deadline to book your room is January 18, 2010. Book your room online at https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=19828&Chain=5158&group=FISHWI.
Consider A Donation to Support the Teaming With Wildlife Congressional Reception
If your organization would like to support the annual Teaming With Wildlife Fly-in event, you can make a donation to support the annual Teaming With Wildlife Reception. The reception is held for members of Congress and their staff and conservation partners. Sponsors will receive public acknowledgement at the reception. Contact Liz Skipper (lskipper@fishwildlife.org) for more information. |
AWARD NOMINATIONS NEEDED FOR 2010 FLY-IN
2010 marks a year of success for State Wildlife Grants, and teaming with Wildlife would like to recognize those agencies, organizations, and individuals who have stood out as leaders in the field of wildlife conservation and management and have been advocates for State Wildlife Action Plans and Teaming with Wildlife. On-the-ground application of management practices and conservation plans are at the foundation of TWW's advocacy. The dedicated work from our agencies and partners is truly what keeps common species common and prevents wildlife from becoming endangered. As TWW members and supporters, we need you to help us recognize this year's award recipients. Nominations are being accepted for the following two award categories:
The State Wildlife Action Plan Partnership Award This award recognizes the outstanding collaboration of both a state fish and wildlife agency and a partner agency or organization in addressing conservation priorities and implementing management strategies associated with a state's wildlife action plan. In addition, state agencies and partners may qualify for this award for outstanding partnerships to advance the mission of Teaming with Wildlife, to support increased public funding for wildlife conservation and related education and recreation needs.
The Teaming with Wildlife Coalition Member Achievement Award This award recognize the outstanding efforts and achievements of a member organization of the over 6,200 member Teaming with Wildlife Coalition. Member organizations that have shown outstanding support for a state's TWW Coalition and/or of a state's wildlife action plan qualify for the Coalition Member Achievement Award. The success of critical monitoring and research projects, habitat conservation work, outreach and conservation education efforts, state coalition recruitment and activation, and many more activities are dependent on the work that each TWW member organization accomplishes annually and is fundamental to the success of State Wildlife Action Plans.
The Teaming with Wildlife Award has been given annually to members of Congress who have continued to be advocates for TWW, State Wildlife Action Plans, and state fish and wildlife agencies. The continued support by members of Congress remains a critical piece of sustaining funding for state-based wildlife diversity programs and we are grateful to those members who have taken a stand in defense of the State Wildlife Grants Program and in support of wildlife conservation and management. Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Tim Johnson, Representative Mike Thompson, and former-Representative Jim Saxtonare just a few among the past recipients of this award. This year the TWW Award will be selected by the TWW Steering Committee and will be given to one member of the Senate and one member of the House. Nominations can be made at http://www.teaming.com/2010_fly_in_event/awards.html. You can submit nominations online or download a form and fax to Terra Rentz at (202) 624-7891. The deadline to submit nominations is January 27, 2010. |
