Hello Again!
I am so hot! We had a terrible winter last year but I hate to say it but a little snow right now would be great. I hope you are dealing with the weather well. We have fewer customers coming into the stores but the ones that are coming in are spending very nicely.
I have been so busy with the move but I wanted to get this to you today. There are some great tips that I know you can use. I do most of the construction work myself because I am impatient and want it done now and right so other things like this newsletter have suffered. I have been trying some new advertising things with the paper, radio and web. I need to follow my Tip of the Month below! Tomorrow is a big day for us. We are closing on our first retail property. No more rent! Yippee! ..... I think. Now we will only have taxes, mortgage, snow removal, roof repairs .... Here are some pictures of the progress if you care to look at them. Click here . As you can see in the pictures, there is a lot of work to do in the back. The office was a one week project a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend moving in the hottest summer in years if you are interested in shedding a few pounds. I am working on some great projects that will be available in the future or to teach at the Boot Camp. They are topics that I struggle with in my business and I think it would be helpful to others. I think hiring the right people is one of the biggest problems we all have. Let me know if you have any topics that you have challenges with.
- Step by step system for interviewing and hiring employees.
- Create more training videos for employees.
- Program on how to at least double Central Vacuum Service Calls.
- Quick demo videos for new employees on Vacuums and Sewing Machines sales.
- System for add on sales.
- Selling Preferred Customer Plans.
Like you, all I need is a few more hours in the day. I tried sleeping less but that didn't work at all. They say when you get older you need less sleep. Well, I think that is a bunch of crap!
Till next time, Always Be Solving,
Howard J. Anderson
Long View Retail Consulting
PS: Have fun and look for pleasures in every day things. It will make those pesky customers seem insignificant! |

Tip of the Month Are you trying to do too much?
As business owners we are forced to wear many hats and that is not all bad but we need to ask ourselves, how many heads for we really have.
I know we can't do it all the time but we need to try to decide what need our attention the most now. If we can limit our focus to fewer things we will have a greater impact on our business.
I know it is hard. We get pulled all over the place. Customers, employees, family etc. There is always something that someone else wants you to do that is more important to them. Make sure it is more important to you.
So here is the Tip of the Month: First: Take time to REFLECT on what you are doing. What can you pass off to others? What do you not have to do at all? Then limit what you are focusing on so that you can have maximum impact with your time. |

As a marketer, you decide how to use your power. Twitter Revolution was designed to help show everyone from the small business owner to the CEO of a large corporation; from work at home moms to politicians in Washington, DC how they can participate in the fastest growing social network and micro-blogging revolution taking place right now. This book is very informative and helpful understanding this new phenomena.

Could This Work For You?
One of my store managers, Susan Bodan, who went to the boot camp came up with the attached letter from what she learned. What will you learn in Vegas at this year's Ultimate Profit Explosion Boot Camp?
Make sure you look at the letter in detail. There is a lot anyone could learn from it. The headlines, the testimonials, the coupons, the lumpy mail. I think she did a great job.
Here is the background. We had closed our store inside Jo Ann Fabrics and there were some good customers who hadn't come into our other store for over a year. She wanted the letter to have some dimension so people would open it. Inside we put a pack of needles.
We sent out just under 200 letters. We printed and stuffed them ourselves so our only extra expense was the cost of envelopes and printing. We got the needles for free from the manufacturer. We had 38 people come in that mentioned the letter. Those people only spent just over $600. No one cashed in the free class coupon. I might add however that the two months following the letter going out we had a huge increase in that store. Almost doubling sales over same month the previous year. These increases were not realized at our other stores. There were other specials going on but I believe it did have an overall impact other than the $600.
Try something out of the box. You don't need to do a huge mailing. You just need to do something! Click here for a copy of the letter. |

A Tap on the Shoulder I couldn't resist sharing this with you.
A true story from the pages of the Manchester Evening News. . .
Last Wednesday a passenger in a taxi heading for Salford station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.
The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said "are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me."
The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said, "I didn't realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly." The driver replied, "No, no, I'm the one who is sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for 25 years."
