Would love to know your name. Update your profile. Thanks!
I got carried away this month! Four Tips of the Month in one newsletter. Unbelievable!!!
Every month I try to share with you some challenges or successes that I am having in my business that I fell you may benefit from hearing. I hope this month's newsletter helps you think about and address some of the problems in your business. If nothing else, you will see that I deal with exactly the same problems and challenges every day that you do and that business isn't always a bowl full of cherries. My stores don't always produce as I would like but I am always working to improve.
I have to preface this with one huge comment. I have many great, committed, loyal, long time employees that work for me. It is a great team but as Zig Ziglar has said and I have repeated many times "Not even a bath is permanent!" I am constantly encouraging them to improve and sell more stuff.
I have a quote that I use when I hire people and all the time with my employees. We are going to "Have fun and make money." I had one store that was not hitting their budgets. They were all working hard but it wasn't producing enough sales. A matter a fact I had 20 positive testimonials just from that store so they were taking care of the customers. Needless to say I wasn't having fun.
If you want to know what I did to turn it around in one month, read the "Tip of the Month" below.
Sammie has been a bad boy lately. He has been getting of the leash and finding his way into the sheep pen where I assume he rolls around in it. Yuck! He has gotten very used to getting a bath. I think I have corrected the problem. Hopefully I have because it is no fun putting him in the tub after a hard days work. I keep on forgetting to take pictures. I'm in too much of a hurry getting him into the tub. BTW: Freshwave Dog Shampoo works great!
I have put together a FREE program that I know will help your business. If you can get 20 or more fellow dealers together anywhere in the country I am willing to fly in and put on a free marketing seminar. I am trying to get manufacturers to sponsor them by providing the meeting space with lunch or dinner. If you are interested, contact your rep and have them contact me at 609-352-6111.
Till next time, Always Be Solving,
Howard J. Anderson
Long View Retail Consulting
PS: Don't forget to save money on this years Boot Camp at the bottom of this newsletter. It will not be lower than this price and you can pay for it over time. A friend of mine just had a similar meeting for the Automobile Industry at the Rio and they said the service and staff were tremendous. |

Recomended Reading How to Sell When Nobody's Buying
By Dave Lakhani No doubt about it - today's selling environment is tough. How to Sell When Nobody's Buying is a great book about practical, effective guide to selling even in the toughest of times. Lakhani is a great writer and this book is packed with new information about creating sales opportunities. Most sales strategies taught today are based on outdated information from ten, twenty, even thirty years ago and they simply don't work today. You'll find the tools and information you need to gain confidence, create powerful alliances, profitable social networks, and drive your profits to unprecedented highs. Definitely a good read. .

How I Turned Around A Store in Just One Month
Tip of the Month
I really shouldn't say "I" it was definanately a "WE" thing. At my weekly meeting (Tip of the Month #1) with my manager, told him that it was not acceptable not to meet our goals and I asked him what we needed to do to hit our goals. After much discussion we decided that what we measured and counted would get done and identified places that we could improve sales.
That is "Tip of the Month #2". If you want to sell more stain remover or anything else, make a sheet by day and have everyone write down when they sell one. In our case we wanted to sell more Preferred Customer Plans and Preferred Maintenance Plans. As of the 15th of this month we sold nine times the number of PCPs and PMPs that we did last month. If you want to spice it up you can turn it into a contest with prizes for winners.
"Tip of the Month #3": I looked at our numbers and came up with the minimum that we needed to do. I then weighted the program by day based on our sales by day over the last three years. These are the percentages that I used to come up with daily goals. The first number is Monday and the last is Sunday. 12%, 15%, 12%, 11%, 15%. 23% and 12%. It is amazing how everyone is focused on the goal. At their 15 minuite morning meeting before the store opens ("Tip of the Month #4) they go over the previous days sales and what the goal is for that day. They are talking about their sales and what worked to bring in the sale from the previous day.
Everyone in the store has a whole new mindset and focus on sales. By themselves they have started writing down the numbers by hour and are trying to beat the time of day that they hit their goal compared to the day before.
This is real easy to set up and costs you nothing. A piece of paper with some lines on it will do. Tape it to the wall and you are ready to go.
Tip #1: Have weekly meetings with your managers and 15 minute morning meetings with everyone befor the store opens and yes... you do pay them.
Tip #2: What you count will get done.
Tip #3: Have daily, Weekly and monthly goals and share with all employees.
Tip #4: Discuss your numbers daily to measure progress and acnowlege successes. |

Is there Softball in heven?
Two 90-year-old women, Bertha and Betty, had been friends all of their lives.
When it was clear that Bertha was dying, Betty visited her every day.
One day Betty said, "Bertha, we both loved playing softball all our lives, and we played all through high school. Please do me one favor: when you get to heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's women's softball there."
Bertha looked up at Betty from her deathbed and said, "Betty, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor for you."
Shortly after that, Bertha died.
A few nights later, Betty was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, "Betty, Betty."

"Who is it," asked Betty, sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"
"Betty -- it's me, Bertha."
"You're not Bertha. Bertha just died."
"I'm telling you, it's me, Bertha," insisted the voice.
"Bertha! Where are you?"
"In heaven," replied Bertha. "I have some really good news and a little bad news."
"Tell me the good news first," said Betty.
"The good news," Bertha said with joy and enthusiasm, "is that there's women's softball in heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before me are here, too. Even better than that, we're all young again. Better still, it's always Springtime and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play softball all we want, and we never get tired."
"That's fantastic," said Betty. "It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what's the bad news?"
"You're pitching Tuesday." |
How to Identify Food Allergies

Food allergies don't just have the potential to create their own unpleasant symptoms in the human body; they are also responsible for causing flare-ups in conditions such as fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome. Identifying problem foods, however, can be a difficult and time-consuming task to complete and can often mean prolonged suffering in the meantime. Although doctors can carry out certain tests to determine which foodstuffs or ingredients are causing the problem, an elimination diet is something that can easily be done at home.
The principle behind an elimination diet is simple. The suspect food is removed from the diet, any effects on symptoms are recorded and if symptoms do subside, the food is then reintroduced to see whether the symptoms return. If they do, it can be reasonably assumed that these foods need to be avoided in the future. As eliminating every single type of food one by one is time-consuming in itself, however, it is often better to start by cutting out an entire food group and, if this results in the alleviation of symptoms, to then reintroduce different elements of the group. You might, for example, cut out all dairy products and then reintroduce them one by one.
One thing to remember when following an elimination diet is that you need to eat other foods that contain the same nutrients as those that have been eliminated, in order to maintain overall health. Tofu-based foods, for example, can be used in place of dairy products. |
