| Greetings!
I have been extremely busy since the 2009 Ultimate Profit Explosion Boot Camp. We have had three major events in our store and I have attended Janome convention as a vendor. I shared my repair program, the DVD's and CD's of the Boot Camp and talked about next year's Boot Camp. It was amazing how many people thought it wouldn't work in "their town". It was very interesting talking to dealers that I have not been in contact before so it was a successful venture. I am going to Brother and Oreck Conventions in August. My arms are getting real tired from flying!
It was great seeing boot camp alums Scott Noble, Christine Humphrey and Karen Burdick, at the Janome event. They are all doing great things. Greg Erickson, are your machines moved yet? Read on and I will share something Scott told me at the meeting.
And yes! I am growing back my hair. Elizabeth got tired of rubbing my bald head and wanted a chia pet. |

2010 Boot Camp location almost finalized!
This is what I look for when choosing a hotel for the Boot Camp. Cheap flights, free shuttle from the airport, reasonable rooms and a nice hotel. I think I found it all and it is even close to home for me. That means I can bring more handouts and stuff to the event. I only have to throw stuff in my van and drive!
I know you can't stand the suspense. I am almost positive it is going to be at the Philadelphia Airport Ramada on September 20-22, 2010. The hotel offers the following:
- 24 hour a day prompt shuttle service to and from the airport
- Gabriella's full service restaurant. Room service also available
- Have relaxing cocktails in Fliers Lounge
- Same day dry cleaning service
- Complimentary hotel parking
- Park&jet airport parking
- Fitness room
- Seasonal outdoor Olympic size swimming pool
The Ramada is a seven story full service hotel newly renovated in guest rooms, meeting/banquet rooms as well as public space. The location is in a quiet suburban setting that is only 2 miles from the Philadelphia International Airport and ten minutes from Center City Philadelphia. It is only minutes from several area attractions including the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia Zoo, Museums, Aquarium, Theaters, Harrah's Chester Casino/Racetrack, great restaurants, Independence Hall, South Street, Phili Cheese Steaks, Springfield Mall, Springfield Country Club and much more!
National Geographic Magazine recently called the Old City area of Philadelphia "the liveliest urban neighborhood between Soho in New York and SoBe [South Beach] in Miami."
We have had great presenters in the past like Bill Glazer, one of the most celebrated small business Marketing Gurus in the world, Bob Negen of WizBang Training, Lee Phillips world renowned speaker on the law and money and so many more. The 2010 Ultimate Profit Explosion Boot Camp will be even better. Make sure you keep watching for more details.
I need your help now. The more people we sign up early, the better quality of speaker I will be able to attract to the boot camp. Good speakers like to speak to groups of 150 or more. So if you want to save money and take advantage of our Early Bird Special and help us all out, click on link to the right to get the special prices. The only thing you have to loose is more profit in our business! |

Repair Prices too High?
Scott Noble attended the 2009 Ultimate Profit Explosion Boot Camp. He operates a very successful sewing and vacuum store in Long Beach, California. I meet him at Janome University and he shared a story with me that I found fascinating.
He had attended my class on repairs and wanted to see what other industries similar to ours charge for service. He went to his local bike shop and found that they charge $100 to $400 to service a bicycle!
No disrespect meant for bicycle repair shops and I am sure it is more complicated than it seems but it's just two wheels and a chain! So, any of you who think your prices can not be raised, look at the bike shop or call Sears for fun. You will be amazed.
Special shout out to all of you who have shared success stories from the Boot Camp. Keep emailing them to me at Howard@LongViewRetail.com .
Jim Miller of Sunflower Quilts is really putting it in high gear! Just one thing he did gave him $18 for every dollar he spent. Great return on his investment!
Amy Baughman put what she learned from Miro Beck at the boot camp to work. She has her video "Tip of the Week" up and running. Click here to check it out!
Keep up the good work Amy and Jim!
2009 has been a challenging year for most of us but I have heard a lot of success stories also. Our business is doing very well but we are not just standing around and waiting for the customers to come in. We are trying new things and improving on the old time tested things that worked in the past.
What are you doing? Now is the time to rachet it up another notch!
Keep watching for ways you can grow your business. |
Sincerely, Howard J. Anderson Long View Retail Consulting

Featured Article
Elizabeth and I were able to meet Ivanka Trump in Chicago in May. She is a very entertaining and sharp business person.
I found it interesting that she went to work for another developer after she graduated from college before going to work for Trump. She shared what it was like growing up with "The Donald" as well as what it as like to work on some of the projects.
Talk about presentation and have a system of checks and balances in place. The impression I got was that nothing just happens. There is always a plan with extremely high standards.
All that said, she seems like a very nice and down to earth person. |

Tip of the Month
After a customer buys something from you, make sure you show your appreciation by acknowledging their purchase with a "Thank You". This not only makes them feel good but it also reinforces the buying decision they made. This could lead to fewer returns.
It could be a courtesy phone call. a thank you card or letter, a discount coupon or a box of chocolate.
The picture above is a talking pen that we send out to people who purchase a machine or when people come to an event. When you push the top it says "Thank you ... Thank you soooo much ... Thank you soooo very much!". They cost us $2 each. They have our logo printed on them. We send them out with a thank you letter and discount coupon to bring them back into the store.
What are you doing to thank your customer and bring them back into the store?
