 Effective January 1, 2010, Mr. Erwin Geyer (54) took over the service management of Winkler + Dünnebier AG. Mr. Geyer has many years of service management experience in the paper and printing machine industry.
The former head of service, Mr. Jürgen Krämer, is leaving the company as of January 31, 2010, by mutual agreement, in order to meet a new challenge.

Expert Online - remote maintenance system of the future |
|
For more than 12 years Winkler+Dünnebier has offered its customers a remote maintenance system based on analog modem technology to solve small and big problems on W+D machines. The analog modem technology has become outdated over the past few years.  For this reason, the remote maintenance system Expert Online was developed. Since 2008, this new remote system has become standard equipment on new machine deliveries. In regard to the service of existing modems, starting January 1, 2010 no analog modems will be delivered. These modems will be replaced by routers which are the same price as a modem, which means no extra costs. You will need only a high-speed internet connection in lieu of the analog telephone line.
What are the benefits of using the Expert Online? Due to a more stable and quicker connection quality with the new internet based remote maintenance system online, help can be provided as soon as the machine is down. And thus expensive downtimes are reduced and minimized by reduced service hours. We recommend linking all relevant machines to the Expert Online for more advantages. This provides the possibility to use Expert Online for inspection, machine and operating data collection as well as a comprehensive communication platform for web conferencing between you and our service team.
With Expert Online, we rely on modern technology for the future. We will continue supporting the existing modems, but the charges will be higher when using the modem solution.

Newly developed electronic jam detection control unit ensures your production |
|
The control modules and components on the circuit boards of the original jam detection system are no longer available. For this reason, W+D has developed a new jam detection control unit with a fast PLC for W+D machine types 102, 202, 249 and 527.  This system is compatible with the older electronic control system of your machine and it operates on the known "cycle-gap" theory of operation, meaning that with each machine cycle the sequence envelope-gap-envelope is scanned. Therefore, there is no need for adjustments of the control unit after a size change.
The benefits of the newly developed control unit include:
- Ensuring production
- Reverse compatibility with older machine types
- Indication of a detailed error message on the display
- No adjustment of the control unit after a size change due to "cycle-gap operation"
- Reduced non-operation periods during size change

As we announced in our November Service Newsletter, we would like to keep you informed about upcoming discontinuations of components. Due to a discontinuation by our sub-supplier Bosch Rexroth/Indramat, we would like to inform you that the service ability of the drive system DIAX03 for spare parts and repairs is only guaranteed up to December 31, 2013. Together with our supplier, we have worked out two options which guarantee the availability of service parts and support beyond 2013:
- Prolongation of the service ability for five years by product overhaul of all drive parts
- Modification of the complete machine to the latest drive generation, Indradrive
Winkler + Dünnebier would like to develop a common strategy together with our customers in order to assure the availability and quality of the production lines as well as planning of the costs.
