You may have heard a little about Facebook.  We have too, and Koinonia now has a Community Group page dedicated to sharing news, updates and information on the agency.

If you have a Facebook account, please choose to become a friend of The Koinonia Foundation, Inc.  We have so much to talk about, and we are very excited to share inspiring stories of lives being changed.

CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS & VIDEOGRAPHERS
Have you, your family, or group, volunteered on behalf of Koinonia?  Did someone take a few photographs or video to capture the day on film?  We are looking for photographs and video of people volunteering for Koinonia.  What better way to share the importance of coming together to make a difference in our community, then through the eyes of the volunteers.

If you have photographs or video of volunteers working for Koinonia and you would like us to publish them, send us your contribution today!

Please send your pictures or video to Frances Robles info@koinfound.org.  Be sure to entitle your email "Making a Difference for My Community" and our Marketing Committee will review your request.

Koinonia has an important story to share!  We have been helping individuals and families get back on their feet and regain their independence since 1966.  Our story is also inspiring for folks who are in the midst of a crisis.  Koinonia has the resources and tools to share with people in need, to help turn their lives around and effect dramatic change.

A Smile That Speaks a Thousand Words
Deqa understands what it means to be a part of a loving and supportive community.  In 2006, Deqa and her family were handed a set of keys to their very own home, built by members of the community volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.  Deqa was thrilled to have a home for her children, and a place for the family to grow.

Several years later however, Deqa found herself struggling to keep her life together.  Deqa became separated from her spouse, and was left to provide for her 4 children and elderly father on her own. Deqa came to Koinonia looking for food, clothing and financial assistance.  Her bright smile seemed to enter the room before her, and she continually expressed her gratefulness to the community, the staff, and volunteers for everything.

Deqa works through the night while her Dad watches the children; she is home for them during the day.  In addition to caring for her young children ranging from 1 1/2 to 6 years old, she drives one child to therapy appointments and exercise classes as he was born with Downs Syndrome and requires additional care.

  Deqa Smiling

Deqa's plate is full, but she always manages to find her smile.

Koinonia's volunteers and staff are continually inspired by the individuals and families who enter through our doors.  Our clients are courageous in the face of uncertainty and it is our pleasure to care for each individual and family; to offer encouraging words and support.

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and help them become what they are capable of being.
