| ReBuild Grant Awarded by Washington Forrest Foundation | |
In June ReBuild was awarded a $2,500 grant by the Washington Forrest Foundation in Arlington. This is the second year in a row the Foundation has provided support for our operations. The Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers would like to express our deepest gratitude for the Foundation's donation and hope that we will continue to earn their trust as we all work towards fulfillment of our mission of making affordable building materials available to the public, training workers in "green collar" jobs, and demonstrating ways to affordably live "greener" lives.

Pick-up Policy | |
We Heard You!! ReBuild Drops Pick-up Fees
As a way of insuring that ReBuild does not lose money when we pick up donated building materials from homeowners, we began charging a $50 pick-up fee beginning June 1st. Each trip costs ReBuild out-of-pocket expenses to pay our driver and helper, as well as pay for the truck lease, insurance, repairs, and maintenance. Unless we can quickly sell those items we pick up, ReBuild must pay these expenses before it receives the money on their sale, which creates a cash flow problem for us. However, the resulting reduction in pick-up requests meant that far fewer items were being donated. Therefore, our new policy, effective immediately, is "No fee will be charged for pick-ups but a check donation made out to "ReBuild" will be gratefully accepted by our driver". We hope you will see our need to "not lose money on our pick-ups" and will be generous in your contributions for timely and conscientious service by our pick-up crews. |

| Hardwood Flooring Installation | |

ReBuild's reclaimed hardwood flooring installation service has caught on with our customers, and we are getting an increased number of requests for residential installation services. Our reclaimed oak flooring regularly sells for $1.75 per sq. ft. but when ReBuild installs it, the price is reduced to $1.25 per sq. ft. Installation, staining, and applying 1-2 coats of a protective polyurethane coating is extra, as is removal of old flooring and moulding, laying of new subflooring and leveling it, and reinstallation of baseboard moulding if requested.
Before you purchase new veneer flooring "out of a box", please consider using reclaimed oak flooring that is solid natural wood, thicker, and has a vintage character more in line with a traditional home. Also, remember that buying inexpensive reclaimed flooring helps create a market for reclaimed flooring and increases the employment of a skilled workforce capable of making use of this type of material and keeping it from going into a landfill. Better made! Inexpensive! Developing "green collar" jobs! And, saving the environment! It doesn't get any better than that!!

Upcoming ReBuild Workshops & Events |
Saturday, July 9, 2pm
Build Your Own Tumbling Composter
You will start this workshop with a pile of recycled lumber, a recycled pickle barrel, and assorted screws and bolts, but you will leave with a fully functioning tumbler style composter! Join Lily Whitesell, the outreach coordinator for the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District and Dan Schwartz, a soil scientist for the Conservation District, as they take you through the construction steps and also give you some primers on proper composting techniques. The finished composter will hold 55 gallons of organic material. All lumber will be pre-cut and all tools and materials will be provided. Dan Schwartz gives many presentations on soil ecology, microbes and organic matter, while Lily Whitesell engages the public through print, the internet and in person, and teaches how conservations starts in your own front yard. The cost of the workshop is $75 and registration is limited to 15 people, although you may bring a helper or two to assist with the construction if you like. Please RSVP to Dan Schwartz: dan.schwartz@fairfaxcounty.gov or (703) 324-1422.

Beltway Stress Burner Yoga!
Living in the Beltway area can be stressful, so take an hour out of your Sunday to relax and learn yoga tips you can take with you off the mat for immediate use--no need to squeeze a peaceful hour out of each day! By integrating a few key energy principles into their daily lives, people have reported a transformation of their commutes and a decrease in stress at work and home. No experience or special clothing/mats are necessary; just come as you are! Instructor Unyong Kim has a background in psychology and leadership training on issues of intergroup relations and conflict resolution, which allows her to convey challenging information in an accessible manner. Her favorite students are those who feel they can't do yoga because of inflexibility, lack of time, and too much stress. For the past 8 years, she has taught everyone from executives to students the principles of yoga to reduce stress and increase energy! For more info: www.stressburneryoga.com. RSVP to TheresaAMeehan@gmail.com. Suggested donation to ReBuild: $20. Location: The Rebuild Warehouse, 6625-B Iron Place, Springfield, VA 22151.

Soil Building!
Learn how to create a beautiful garden by taking to heart the key principal of organic and sustainable gardening - "Take care of the soil and the plants will take care of themselves." Amol Kaikini, an organic gardener since 1988 and a member of the Fairfax County Master Gardeners Association, will help you gain a better understanding of and appreciation for what is often negatively referred to as "dirt." Come learn about the ecology and stewardship of soil, as well as the best practices to improve your soil without high cost or back breaking work. Please RSVP to TheresaAMeehan@gmail.com. Fee: no charge. Location: The ReBuild Warehouse, 6625-B Iron Place, Springfield, VA 22151.
