| Volunteers Needed |

ReBuild Needs YOU!!
Help ReBuild stretch our limited budget, and ReBuild can help you stretch your budget on your next project!! Did you know that ReBuild volunteers earn $5.00 in store credit for every hour you volunteer which even includes the one-hour orientation session? These can accumulate for up to two years. Hours credit do NOT necessarily have to be incurred working in the warehouse. Assistance in data entry, making phone calls, assistance with ReBuild workshops and fundraising events all count .
Do you have a few hours a month you would like to spend helping ReBuild? Besides the warehouse, volunteers are needed to staff ReBuild's exhibits at community events, writing articles for ReBuild's newsletter as well as their civic association newsletter, and weekly community newspapers. ReBuild is constantly seeking opportunities as a guest speaker at civic association meetings. Is your civic group looking for a speaker for an upcoming event?
We also need advice in marketing ReBuild's services and in community relations from persons who might be willing to review our plans? Do you know of someone who might be interested? Does your company encourage their employees to volunteer time with a nonprofit organization?
These are only a few of the many ways you can become involved with ReBuild. You may have some other ideas. We'd love to hear them. Just call Paul at 703/280-1719.
Also, if you can't volunteer but would like to make a donation to help us, you can do so by using PayPal or mailing your check payable to ReBuild to 8929 Colesbury Pl., Fairfax, VA 22031.

We're Still Making Coldframes for Spring Planting
Built to order from reclaimed wood and window frames |
Do you have a sunny corner of your yard that you'd like to do something with but haven't figured out what yet? Would you like to grow fresher and tastier produce than you buy at the supermarket after it's traveled an average of 1,500 miles? You may want to consider one of ReBuild's coldframes. They come in two sizes (see below) and will enable you to get a jump on the planting season. The smaller size can even fit on a deck or balcony!! Stop by and place your order. We already have had three elementary schools purchase them for their students. If you would like to volunteer your time either Saturday or Sunday to help the staff keep up with the orders, just call head and let us know you're available to help. We'd welcome it!! Also, remember, when you volunteer, you also earn store credit at a rate of $5.00 per hour!!

Again, we'll be starting to make these on Saturday and Sunday and, if you can lend us a hand, we could sure use your help and enable you to earn store credits as you help.

Customer Survey | |
The ReBuild staff is considering building other useful items but would like to gauge the interest of our customers before getting too far along in this endeavor. To help support the growing urban agriculture movement, we'd like to use some of our reclaimed lumber to both build, and to train people to build themselves, layered compost bins, backyard tool sheds, Adirondack chairs, deck planters, bluebird houses, and even chicken coops. Just click here to send us an email as to whether you would be interested in buying one or more of these items. We'll be making a decision on these within the next week, so we can undertake whichever ones (or other ideas you may have) are of the most interest to our customers and have them ready for Spring.

Meet ReBuild's Family | |
Each month we like to feature a member of our board of directors, staff, or volunteers to help our customers and friends better understand ReBuild's purpose and direction and what prompted us to get involved with ReBuild and to remain engaged. This month's interview is with Mario Vargas, our new assistant warehouse manager.
How did you become affiliated with The ReBuild Warehouse?
I learned about Rebuild online. It really caught my attention that its mission is focused in the community, dedicated to recycling, assisting small businesses in using reclaimed building materials, and simultaneously providing a worker training program. I recently became part of the staff and am happy to help carry out that mission.
What is your current position at ReBuild and how long have you been with them?
I have been at ReBuild just for over a month, and am the Assistant Warehouse Manager.
How do you see ReBuild evolving?
I truly think Rebuild has a lot of potential to be a leading organization in its field. The different parts of the program that ReBuild offers present several opportunities for people to participate with ReBuild, and with their involvement the programs can have a significant impact in the community. I hope it becomes self-sustainable first and then becomes a larger operation. But it is still a relatively new organization that just needs some time to grow and become better known in the community.
How would you encourage people who might be interested in ReBuild to become involved?
I would invite people to first visit our warehouse to see our operation, materials and workshop information we offer. And, as I mentioned before, there are several ways to become involved: become a donor and receive tax deduction; help the ReBuild Board of Directors in fundraising activities; volunteer in the warehouse and help in the operations and in assisting customers; volunteer with your pickup truck or cargo van to help us collect donations; give presentations before community groups, especially if you are involved the environmental field; and spreading the word about Rebuild by telling your friends, neighbors, school programs, etc. I would encourage people, especially in these difficult times, to purchase reclaimed material from our warehouse, save some money, and support Rebuild's program
What do you see as ReBuild's biggest challenges over the next several years?
At this moment, I think spreading the word about ReBuild is the biggest challenge. I am positive that after becoming better known by the community, ReBuild will have more resources and eventually grow to a point where the challenge will be keeping up with the demand.
What kind of activities do you enjoy while not working at ReBuild?
I like almost all kind of outdoor activities, especially baseball. I also like to read, watch movies and spend time with my family. |

Free Advertising | |
If you owned a small business, would you pass up the opportunity for free advertisement? Well, unfortunately, The ReBuild Warehouse is doing that every day. Why? Because we have not had enough money to pay for an advertising "wrap" for our 14-ft enclosed truck. It costs approximately $4,400 to create a mobile "billboard" that contains ReBuild's name, logo, advertisement, website, and telephone number on all four sides of the truck as it travels throughout the DC metropolitan area each day. We could use your donations, however large or small, to help us rectify this situation and turn our truck into a more productive asset. If you would like to help us, click here. |
