Hello Everyone,
As we begin to transition from winter to spring, ReBuild will be transitioning as well. This will be the last newsletter Megan Kirin and we will co-edit. After helping guide the ReBuild Warehouse through its first operating year, Megan has decided to explore opportunities opening up in her profession of commercial interior design, as the economy begins to improve. She leaves behind a strong record of support for the environment, for ReBuild's commitment to saving usable building materials and ReBuild's mission to fund training programs for hard-to-place workers in "Green Collar" jobs. She will be sorely missed by our customers and by the ReBuild staff. Her dedication and drive will serve her well in her next venture.
Megan's replacement, as Materials Coordinator, is Damonte "Monte" Robinson whom many of our customers met last summer when he was on assignment from his regular job with DeConstruction Services, LLC. Monte enjoyed the challenge and working with the customers so well that we asked him to accept this position on a full-time basis. While Megan's shoes will not be easy to fill, Monte's deconstruction experience will enable him to closely coordinate the material donations from deconstruction with their suitability for resale at ReBuild, relate to builders, and forge strong alliances with building supply stores that donate their overstocked products. Please stop by and welcome Monte the next time you are in the store.
Paul S. Hughes Daryl Spencer
Executive Director President

Saturday February 13th-11:00am:
Ever wonder where your stuff comes from and where it goes? Enjoy this 20 minute video called "The Story of Stuff" to learn about your stuff and how simply continuing to shop at the ReBuild warehouse can help combat part of a vicious cycle.
Saturday February 20th-11:00am: Learn how to make a cold frame from reclaimed building materials and extend your gardening season. Diane Blust also will discuss plants that a cold frame will enable you to grow almost all year round in the Washington area (with a little effort and a good southern exposure). Time permitting, Diane will also talk about composting and a bit about organic gardening!
Saturday February 27th-11:00am:
The Story of Cap & Trade is a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the leading climate solution discussed in Copenhagen and on Capitol Hill. Host Annie Leonard introduces the energy traders and Wall Street financiers at the heart of this scheme and reveals the "devils in the details" in current cap and trade proposals: free permits to big polluters, fake offsets and distraction from what's really required to tackle the climate crisis. If you've heard about cap and trade, but aren't sure how it works (or who benefits), this is the film is for you. | |

| Eco-Tip |
|
In keeping with our February 13th showing of "The Story of Stuff" we offer these Eco-Tips. These tips can help make a difference in your wallet and the environment.
Simplify:
Simplify your life as much as possible. Only keep belongings that you use/enjoy on a regular basis. By making the effort to reduce what you own, you will naturally purchase less and create less waste in the future. For information on voluntary simplicity, check out Voluntary Simplicity Websites. Learn more at The Compact blog (Yahoo group/blog), which supports individuals committed to not buying products for a year.
Shopping Bags:
While shopping, if you only buy a few products skip the shopping bag. For larger purchases, bring your own. Learn about the dangers of plastic bags and what countries around the world are doing about it at "The Dangers of Plastic Bags" slide show from Teacher Vishal Mody.
Mug-to-Go: Carry a mug with you wherever you go for take-out beverages. Not only does this help to cut down on waste, but most coffee shops also offer a discount on your beverage when you use your own mug!

Thank you for your continuous support of ReBuild and its environmental goals.
