What is ReBuild?

ReBuild ExteriorAs we approach a New Year, we thought this would be a great time to reflect on what ReBuild is and what we do.
What we are:
A nonprofit, 501(c)3, used building materials warehouse.
What we do:
Accept donations of quality used building materials to help keep them out of the landfill and get them back into the communities, promoting reuse and saving energy and natural resources.

Formal mission:
Revitalizing lives and resources for a sustainable community.
Where our proceeds will go:
To fund training programs for hard-to-place workers in "green collar" jobs like deconstruction, asbestos abatement, green roof installation, home weatherization, solar panel and solar hot water installation and similar fields.

So what are "green collar" jobs and why is ReBuild investing in them?
Green Collar jobs are any jobs within the environmental sectors of the economy. Environmental green-collar jobs (or green jobs) satisfy the demand for green development.  ReBuild is dedicated to assisting in green development as well as helping hard-to-place workers find a new or additional career in this emerging sector.

Home Weatherization Service:
ReBuild has introduced a new Home Weatherization Service to help you live more comfortably this winter AND save on your heating bills. This service consists of two parts: (1) an energy audit performed by an independent ResNet-certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) auditor; and (2) weatherization improvements performed and installed by experienced ReBuild and DeConstruction Services, LLC crews.  Weatherizing your home qualifies you for IRS tax credit.
For additional information and for audit prices please contact Paul Hughes at 703.280.1719.

As the largest supplier of reclaimed hardwood flooring in Northern Virginia, ReBuild can offer great deals on the purchase and installation of oak, maple and pine flooring.  Our customers can choose to purchase just the wood flooring at discounted prices and do the installation themselves, or they can have ReBuild perform any of the associated services, including removal of the old flooring, floor installation, sanding, and application of stain and a final protective coat if they prefer.

Before & After

Customer Creation 1We have received many before and after photos from our customers as they complete projects using materials purchased in the warehouse.  Michael Parish purchased a pile of rickety, old, wrought iron railing from us and fabricated it to match his home.  Great Job!

If you have images you would like to share please send us an email with photos and a brief description of your project!

You can view other customer creations on our website or our facebook fan page.

ReBuild was also part of a fantastic article called "New Life for Old Building Materials" in Builder 2009.  We are in the line up of Local ReUse stores and our neighbors, Community Forklift & Habitat, made the article.  Definitely worth reading!

Residential Rain Gardens: Design, Construction and Maintenance

A new quite is available to help you create a rain garden on your property.  Rain gardens are depressions that temporally fill with water when it rains.  Storm water runoff from your downspouts, driveway and yard can be directed to a rain garden to solve drainage issues and protect our streams, the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.  The Rain Garden Design and Construction: A Northern Virginia Homeowner's Guide is a step-by-step manual for creating home rain gardens.  The guide includes tips on materials, a worksheet to help you design and size your garden on a plant list.  The guide is a joint publication of the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Northern Virginia Soil & Water Conservation District. Download your garden guide today.

Thank you for your constant support of the warehouse

Sincerely,
