Guest Furniture Artist Kelvin McCann- F.O.A.M. - The Found Objects Art Museum - c/o Ghetto Picasso
ReBuild attended a networking event at The Soundry ( http://www.soundry.net/), in Vienna, Virginia on Monday May 18th . We met many wonderful artists who work with "found objects", such as old doors, old windows, electrical parts, left over display pieces and the like. We were so impressed with their creativity that we decided to try out an artist series here at the warehouse this summer. Starting on June 20th ,with Kelvin McCann , and during the month of July we have offered five artists a space to work in the warehouse where they can demonstrate just how easy it is to be creative with all types of materials.
Kelvin McCann , our first artist, is the Founder of F.O.A.M. - The Found Objects Art Museum - c/o Ghetto Picasso. View his website here: http://ghettopicasso.blogspot.com/
Kelvin also showcases his work at The Soundry.
"Designed from reclaimed materials, junk and salvage, I make party furniture. Sustainable and green, each piece a social centerpiece. Available for rent." - Kelvin McCann (aka Ghetto Picasso).

Our landfills are quickly filling up. Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste is a major contributor to landfills. Below are some facts from a June 1998 US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study (1) that are still very much relevant today.
·136 million tons of building-related C&D debris were generated in 1996
·43% of C&D waste (58 million tons per year) is generated from residential sources
·This is equivalent to 2.8 pounds per person per day or 1,022 pounds per year
·Of all solid waste generated in Virginia received at Virginia facilities in 2007, 68% was municipal solid waste, 18.45% was C&D waste and the remainder (14%) was other types of waste.
·At the current disposal rate, Virginia has approximately 12.9 years of available C&D landfill capacity remaining.
