Greetings! Welcome all the new subscribers this month to Kort's Korner. I hope you enjoy my newsletters. I always welcome feedback and input for future mailings.
Fall is a busy time for us professionally. Many people consider therapy after enjoying summer and getting back to school, careers, jobs and family lives. As things slow down people start reflecting and decide that it is time do something about the things they don't like in their lives.
I love this quote in the subject line that I heard from a friend:
SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, MEAN WHAT YOU SAY,
AND DON'T SAY IT MEAN!
How true this is! As a therapist this is my life's work--to help people do this. It is not easy to be direct if you don't know yourself what you are meaning or trying to say. It is also important to say what you mean which can only be done when you are not in a reactive state. Most people--especially couples--say things they don't mean because they are hurt and angry and in reactivity. Then they end up saying things in a mean way. No one can hear you when you say it mean!
The IMAGO Relationship Dialogue that I teach couples is the best way to say what you mean, mean what you say and not say it mean. You can read more about it here
Below you will find a calandar of events including a one day workshop associate Felix Paulick is doing for men (straight, bisexual and gay men), a one day workshop for people interested in exploring the best ways for them to come out by associate Kelli Weller as well as a book club discussion group based on one of my books in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
