Greetings!
Welcome all the new subscribers this month to Kort's Korner. I hope you enjoy my newsletters. I always welcome feedback and input for future mailings.
This spring I am happy to be offereing several new groups and workshops to my practice as well as a new associate, Kelli Weller, MA, LLPC.
 Kelli has her master's in clinical counseling and her specialties are:

She is starting two new groups at our practice as you will read below:
LGBTQ Teen Group Fridays 6-8PM

Couples Workshop for straight and gay/lesbian couples
Dates: May 15-16, 2010
Saturday 9:30AM - 9:00PM
Sunday 9:30AM - 6:00PM
This weekend workshop for couples is based on the book, Getting The Love You Want by Dr. Harville Hendrix.
The weekend is worth 6 months of therapy and uses the theory, tools and communication model of IMAGO Relationship Therapy (IRT). To learn more about what IRT is click here.

Announcing an LGBTQ Coming Out Therapy Group
Location: Offices of Joe Kort, Ph.D. & Associates, PC This is a supportive and informational counseling group where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or individuals who are questioning their identity can come to at any stage in their coming out process and be able to explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe and friendly environment. Group members will be given useful community information that they can benefit from immediately. The issues examined will include: - Understanding feelings of same sex gender attraction
- Examining stereotypes about lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals
- Stages of coming out
- Coming out to family, friends, and co-workers
- Overcoming feelings of fear and isolation
- Developing a network of social support
- What to expect and what to avoid during the coming out process
- Family dynamics
- Issues of grief and loss
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms from long-term "closetedness", relationship issues, heterosexual marriage and more |

Creating Trust and Intimacy: A One Day Workshop for Men
Saturday, June 12, 10am-6pm
Location: Office of Joe Kort, Ph.D. & Associates

Before we can create trust and intimacy in our relationships we must first learn how to trust and be intimate with ourselves. The process of creating intimacy or "into-me-see" is about trusting ourselves and the other enough to allow the other to see our true self. This means that we first have to discover who we are and to fully accept ourselves. This workshop will take you on an inner journey to help you identify how you are blocking trust and intimacy from flowing freely in your life.
We will examine the relationship between trust and intimacy as well as:
- Your childhood experiences
- Messages from the media and popular culture
- Sex
- Addictive behaviors
This workshop is designed to teach new skills in the following areas:
- How to be alone with yourself without being bored.
- How to understand and feel your emotions without blocking or judging them.
- How to take responsibility for your feelings and let go of blaming, defending, and justifying
- How to begin the process of creating trust and intimacy in your relationships.

LGBTQ Teens Group Therapy
|
For Adolescents between the ages 15-19-years-old
Fridays 6:00 - 8:00pm
8 week group

This is a supportive counseling group where LGBTQ teens can explore and address issues about their sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. |
The material will help teens acquire skills for issues related to:
- Coming Out
- Family Relationships & Communication
- Dating
- Disease Prevention
- Avoiding Risk-Taking Behavior
Teens will also have the opportunity to learn coping skills relevant to dealing with homophobia and promoting and maintaining their healthy physical and emotional development.
In a warm and caring group setting there will be plenty of opportunities to participate in interactive and engaging activities designed to empower teens to deal with issues of self-esteem and self-identity.
Teens will be able to use role playing and practice exercises to apply newly learned coping and decision making skills that will enable them to make smart choices and decisions about their wellness and safety. |

Sexual Addiction:
Differential Diagnosis, Treatment and Erotic Recovery
A four part teleclass

Sexual Addiction - What is it? Does it exist? There are many reasons someone experiences hypersexuality. Sexual Dependency is a syndrome that can include out of control sexual behaviors, internet and porn addiction and compulsive infidelity. Find out how to determine when behaviors are addiction or if they are an indication of other things. Also, we will look at the spouse and partner of the sexual dependent and use real case examples to delve deeper into the diagnosis, meaning and treatment. Participants will learn how to make a differential diagnosis, provide accurate and empathetic treatment for the patient and their partner, and examine how their own countertransference often interferes with treating sexually disordered patients.
This four week teleseminar on issues relating to sexual addiction issues.
Week 1: The Sexual Dependency Syndrome- Fetishes, Paraphilias, Porn Use, Sexual Anorexia
Week 2: Cracking the erotic code for nonsexual meanings to develop your treatment plan.
Week 3: Disclosure to spouse . When is it helpful, when harmful. Nuts & bolts to using disclosure with couples
Week 4: Erotic Recovery after Sex Addiction - Integrating fantasy and their meaning, taking eroticism into action in the relationship, finding healthy meaning to relational sex
