**NEW**Teleclasses and Group Therapy
from Kort's Korner
Joe Kort professional photo 2009 Greetings!

This is an email alert about new offerings for this winter, 2010. I am doing more teleclasses with my colleague Dr. Tammy Nelson on hypersexuality, commonly known as sexual addiction in popular culture. There is a movement happening right now in the update of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM V published by the American Psychiatric Association to include Hypersexuality as a formal diagnosis. Right now sexual addiction does not exist as a diagnosis.

In the teleclass we will be teaching mental health clinicians how to identify and treat what I call Sexual Dependency Disorder which includes sexual addiction and other forms of hypersexuality.

I am also very excited to announce another colleague working with me. He is starting a men's sexuality group therapy for men of all sexual orientations dealing with sexual issues which are interfering with their lives. I hope you will consider giving him a call as he is also available for individual and couple's therapy through my office.

Hope this finds you all well in these mid-winter days which can be blue for many folks.

Warmly,

Joe Kort, PhD

MEN'S SEXUALITY GROUP THERAPY

Felix PaulickThursdays 6:30 - 8:30pm
Location: Office of Dr. Joe Kort & Associates
Facilitated by Felix Paulick, MSW, MBA

his therapy group is designed to help men increase awareness of how their sexuality developed and how best to integrate it with a healthy, fulfilling life. It will help men resolve sexual behaviors that are interfering in their lives.

Sexual Addiction/compulsion is rarely about sex, but rather about early childhood trauma. Often it is based in childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse or neglect. The individual is usually terrified of adult intimacy and uses the sexual acting out behaviors as a way to avoid it unconsciously.

The issues we examine and help solve include:

  • Examining the negative effects of unresolved family-of-origin issues in childhood, which are currently interfering in men's adult lives.

  • Pornography use and Internet cybersex

  • Past and present abuse (sexual, physical, verbal, emotional) and other traumas that lead men to be ashamed of their sexuality.

  • Misconceptions about sexual behavior and bad role models that can damage or even ruin men's intimate relationships.
