Greetings!
From every indication, the field of social investing is experiencing explosive growth. In 2010, the Network now at 125 - gained 49 new members. More than 500 individuals attended events organized to facilate greater investing, including our national conference, the PRI Institute, webinars and workshops at grantmaker conferences and events around the country.
In 2011, we will offer our PRI Institute, webinars, and other training opportunities for those new to PRI making; add programs for advanced PRI makers, and support emerging communities of interest, such as community foundations and international investors. We will also work with other networks to deliver the information and resources you need to advance your work. Visit our online calendar for a preview of upcoming events, and call us if you need specific kinds of help.
Thank you to our foundation and Affiliate members for supporting this work. If you are not yet a member, we encourage you to join us as we work together to build the capacity of the field in 2011 and beyond.

What's New at the Network
Resources Available for CDFI Investors
On December 8, we offered a new webinar, On the Road to CDFI Investing, to learn why so many foundations are investing in Community Development Financial Institutions to support their missions and use CARS™, the CDFI Assessment and Ratings System, to support their work. If you missed the webinar, you can access the audio recording and slide presentation at your convenience.
The Network is working with CARS™ to expand affordable access to CARS™ ratings reports for smaller foundations through a discounted group subscription. If your organization might be interested in participating in order to receive reports on a specific CDFI, please let us know.
PRI Makers Network Member Gathering in Seattle Friday, January 14, noon - 1:30 p.m. Network members in the Seattle area on January 14 are invited to a member luncheon. Watch for your email invitation and let us know if you can attend! |

PGE Foundation Makes Its First PRI The PGE Foundation, in partnership with the Meyer Memorial Trust, awarded its first-ever PRI to Serendipity Center in Portland, OR, an accredited therapeutic school and certified mental health agency that provides specialized education and treatment services to children. The Foundation's $25,000 five-year, below-market-rate loan provides bridge financing to complete Serendipity's capital expansion project. The Foundation has previously supported Serendipity with grants. |
Social Investing in Canada
The Canadian Task Force on Social Finance champions policies and strategies to promote social investing. In Mobilizing Private Capital for Public Good, the Task Force outlines seven recommendations to strengthen and expand the sector, including that Canadian foundations invest at least 10% of their capital in mission-related investments by 2020, and that the federal and provincial governments partner with foundations to establish Impact Investment Funds to spur social investments. |
