   Innovate. Leverage. Grow.

Greetings!

Thank you to all who have responded to our member survey. Based on results so far, the aspects of Network membership that are most important include access to information through our website and newletters, connections with other PRI makers, and training opportunities. We continue to develop our website to make it as easy as possible for users to obtain practical information and tools. This fall, we will also offer new webinars, training and connection opportunities targeted at community foundations and international PRI makers, PRI sessions at a number of conferences around the country, and our PRI Institute. We look forward to seeing you at these events. If you are a funder that is making or considering making PRIs but is not yet a Network member, I encourage you to apply today and participate in our fall programming.

Don't forget to send us your PRI news!

Join the Conversation on our Online Members Forum

The most recent post on the forum is a question from a Network member who is reviewing their policy for setting PRI interest rates. Do you leave it up to an applicant to propose, do they vary based on risk, or do you have a standard rate for all investments? Do you have a policy template you can share?

Thank you to all members who have let us know how they made use of the Network in the past year, and how the Network can help in the year ahead. If you have not yet taken the survey, please give us your feedback today!
Welcome New Members!

The Network has 108 foundation member organizations representing 37 states from around the country, as well as Canada and The Netherlands. Please join us in welcoming our latest foundation member, the Porter County Community Foundation of Valparaiso, Indiana.

We also have three nonprofit Affiliate members that work with PRI investors:

Calvert Social Investment Foundation is focused on maximizing the flow of capital to disadvantaged communities in order to create a more equitable and sustainable society;
Coastal Enterprises Inc. is working to create economically and environmentally healthy communities in which all people, especially those with low incomes, can reach their full potential;
RSF Social Finance is finding ways to improve society and the environment by providing capital to nonprofit and for-profit social enterprises in the areas of food and agriculture, education and the arts, and ecological stewardship.

RSF Launches Food & Agriculture Fund

As we saw at our May conference in Chicago, many foundations are exploring ways to invest in food finance. Participants in our Food Finance workshop shared ideas and investment opportunities (available on our website) and discussed the need for more avenues for investment.

Investing in sustainable food systems is key to strengthening local economies and improving the health of our communities. To help accomplish this, RSF Social Finance has launched a Food & Agriculture PRI Fund that allows foundations to make PRI investments in a range of food enterprises, including a nonprofit that has created a replicable model for distributing local organic food to institutions, including hospitals, universities, and schools. RSF Social Finance's new fund offers foundations an efficient way to "recycle" grant dollars through PRI investment while supporting innovative models for large scale change. $6 Million Working Capital Loan Fund Established

New York City-based Clark Foundation allocated $2 million to the Nonprofit Finance Fund to establish a working capital loan fund for nonprofit organizations that are struggling financially. The PRI, made from the Foundation's endowment fund, will allow NFF to make an additional $4 million available to Clark grantees. This fund aims to help alleviate the operational strain that many nonprofits experience due to gaps in cash flow.
