Greetings!
A recent tour of the Ninth Ward, as part of the Katrina@5 conference, made clear both the power of philanthropic investment and the need for additional support. Grants and PRIs from national and regional foundations in coordination with the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and other outstanding local organizations have put New Orleans on the track to recovery. But too many community organizations that are rich in passion, commitment, and volunteer power, remain strapped for cash while waiting for promised government funds. New Orleans is a remarkable, unique community with new leadership and renewed hope, but there is much more to do. For more information on the Katrina recovery efforts and lessons learned, go to: Foundation Center/Katrina.
