Building Tools for Effective Philanthropy

December 2009 Newsletter
Greetings!

As you recall, we started 2009 amid fears about economic collapse. Acute financial and job losses sent human needs soaring. Access to financial capital was reduced to a drip, if not cut off. In the face of these circumstances, foundations across the country stepped up their efforts through strategic investments. Leading private and community foundations made major commitments to preserve affordable housing, promote business development and job creation, and build schools. At the same time, nonprofit partners and social entrepreneurs rallied even in these challenging circumstances. It makes me look ahead to the coming year with gratitude and optimism.
