National Day of Action Against Arizona's Racial Profiling Law!

Join CAUSA on Saturday, May 29th at the Oregon State Capitol for a March and Rally in solidarity with the National Day of Action against SB1070--Arizona's New Racial Profiling Law.

At 11 am Saturday, May 29 at Oregon's Capitol building, protesters will be marching and rallying in a national day of action to oppose Arizona's SB 1070, which some have called "Arizona's racial profiling law."

This legislation makes it illegal for an immigrant to be in Arizona without carrying the required documentation and allows law enforcement to arrest anyone suspected of illegal immigration.

Organizer Ranfis Villatoro called the rally an opportunity to speak out against "racial profiling, civil rights violations and discrimination going on in Arizona" after the bill's passage. It is also an opportunity to speak out against the country's current immigration system.

WHAT:  Day of Action Against Arizona's Racial Profiling Law
WHEN: Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
WHERE:  Steps of the Oregon State Capitol,  Salem

Eugene Car Pooling:  Transportation to the Capitol at 900 Court St. in Salem will be arranged at Eugene's St. Mary's church at 9 am Saturday.

Memorial Day weekend, May 28-31, 9am-6pm

Lane County Veterans For Peace, Chapter 159, will pay tribute to the 122 soldiers with close ties to Oregon, who've died in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.  Their goal is to increase public awareness of the human cost of war.

Friday through Monday, 9am -6pm, the veterans will display a field of flags with the names of the soldiers who've died. Their display will be between the Ferry Street Bridge and the DeFazio Bike Bridge. All are welcome.

CALC Open House: Last Friday Art Walk
June 25, 5:30-8pm
Music, Refreshments, Art,  Honoring Leslie Brockelbank

Hello Friends,

Here is something that gives me real pleasure. When CALC holds an Open House during the Whiteaker Last Friday Art Walk on June 25th, we'll be naming the building the Leslie Brockelbank Peace and Justice Center and installing a plaque to so indicate. Please save the date!

It's super appropriate to name the building for Leslie because she was on the committee to locate a place for CALC and she was the one who actually found the building.  She then put up much of the down payment and helped work through all the details involved in acquiring and fixing up the building.

Even though only one current board member really knew Leslie, they all understand about honoring people who brought us this far.

It would also be a nice time to make a donation to CALC in honor of Leslie if you'd like to do so (458 Blair Blvd., Eugene, OR 97402).

Personally, I still miss her a lot.  She brought out the best in us.
