Tax Day Rally
"Taxes for Human Needs not Wall Street and War"
Tax Day, Thursday, April 15, 11-3 p.m, Noon Rally
Eugene Downtown Post Office
Join CALC and Eugene Springfield Solidarity Network -Jobs With
Justice, on tax day to call for a reduction in military spending and an
increase in funding for education, job creation, universal health care, and
other vital services.
The event features a noon rally with labor singers George
Mann and Mark Ross, singers Eva Bagno and Gary Parks, and a preview of the
Resisting Militarism Fashion Show.
Over 50% of the Federal discretionary budget is devoted to the
military. Nine individuals who choose not to fund this part of the budget will
be redirecting a total of $ 4,246 of their resisted "war" taxes to 29
organizations. Some of these organizations will be on hand tomorrow to receive
their donations.
Organizers will provide taxpayers the opportunity to decide where
their tax dollars go, by inviting them to participate in a penny poll.
Additional sponsors include Industrial Workers of the World,
Latin America Solidarity Committee, AFSCME Local 3214, Oregon Fair Trade
Campaign, and Rising Tide.
