December 2009
Dear Friends,
As we head into the cold and grey of winter, I am writing to ask for your support of an organization that continuously strives to be a beacon of light. In good times and in bad times, we need such a light. It shows us the direction we can take as people, as communities and as a nation - one that leads us closer to peace and justice for all.
I ask you to support CALC, to make it part of your giving plan this year. CALC helps us all recognize that diversity makes our communities richer and better.
- Through Back to Back: Allies for Human Dignity, CALC has organized over 400 people who will come out 5 times a year in support of human rights and dignity. If you have been to the photographic exhibits showing the range of loving families in our area, then you know the impact B2B has.
- Through Springfield Alliance for Equality and Respect, CALC has worked to ensure that shelter is provided to those in need, that schools are safe for all children, no matter their sexual orientation or that of their parents, and that youth are at the center of annual commemorations for both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez.
Peace is at the heart of much of CALC's work, whether it is the peace that grows in our communities when everyone is valued and safe or the ending of war and strife abroad. - CALC builds grassroots efforts to end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and seeks to encourage non-military solutions to conflict.
- Working with veterans, CALC visits every high school in Lane County, encouraging young people to think carefully about their options before signing up with military recruiters.
Please join me in supporting CALC, making it a generous part of your giving plan this year. CALC helps us as a community to offer leadership in peacemaking, so that no one loses a child to war. Contributions to CALC are tax-deductible.
The light of justice and peace, the work to bring out the best in us, and to join others around the world who do the same has never been more important than now.
Please give!
Peace,
Kitty Piercy
