Obama's Afghanistan Decision is Looming, Join National
Call-in Week
Action Alert From Peace Action Director Kevin Martin
Every day brings us one
day closer to President Obama's policy announcement on Afghanistan. He is not
expected to make his decision until after Thanksgiving, but the time we have
left to influence his choice is dwindling.
Last week Paul Kawika
Martin and I were invited to the White House to discuss Peace Action's stance
on the war with National Security Council staff. We told the White House that
we need a transition to non-military solutions in Afghanistan and a plan to
withdraw US and NATO forces as soon as possible. We told them that escalation
is not an option.
Join with people all
around the country who are calling President Obama this week and telling him
Americans and Afghans want peace, not more troops and more war. Call him at
202-456-1111. If you have called before, a second or third call is still
important. Our calls
are making a difference.
Veterans, military
families and the majority of Americans now oppose escalation in Afghanistan and
just last week the California Democratic Party passed a resolution asking
President Obama to get out of Afghanistan. Remind the new administration that
it rode into office on the Peace Wave.
Talk to a friend about Afghanistan and ask her or him to call the
White House too, so we
can reach even more people and have an even greater influence on the
administration.
Kevin Martin, Peace Action
P.S. Stay tuned for local actions happening the day after President Obama makes his announcement.
