CALC notes with great sadness the passing on August 31st of Leslie Brockelbank. Leslie's involvement with CALC helps explain CALC's survival and effectiveness over many years. Leslie served on and later chaired the CALC Board of Directors. Under Leslie's leadership, CALC moved beyond functioning as an informal group devoted to peace and justice and became a more strategic, sustainable organization. She taught CALC how to forward an agenda. Then, for several years in the 80's, she served as an unpaid but very creative and conscientious member of the staff. In recent years, she has served on CALC's Advisory Council.
Leslie also was a key person in many other groups throughout the years, including the Movement for a New Society, McKenzie River Gathering Foundation (she was co-founder of MRG), and WAND. In addition, she was very involved with Maude Kerns Art Center, which was named for her aunt.
We can best honor Leslie by following her example of steadfast commitment to peace and justice and her willingness to act on her beliefs.
