Walk Wisconsin Fall/Winter News Shorts

Fall Walk Reviews

The Treehaven "Walk Through the Woods" on October 3rd at UWSP's College of Natural Resources field campus hit the fall colors of Tomahawk perfectly.  Thanks to the Treehaven staff for all their assistance and enthusiasm for our walking program.

The MoonWalk Wisconsin event under the full moon of October 6th on the Tomorrow River State Trail.....well....as the Scots say, "if it had been raining, it would have been raining sideways."  We were impressed by the number of walkers who braved the cold, rain and wind and still came in smiling.  Our tents seemed more like kites, but we rounded everything up and it has all been stored for next year.  If you registered for MoonWalk and chose to stay warm that night, stop by the Stevens Point Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau at 340 North Division to pick up your complementary three way flashing light for your next night walk.

Two Winter Walking Opportunities

The Stevens Point YMCA's "Frostbite" run/walk includes a five mile winter walk.  This year, the event will talk place on Saturday, December 5th and it starts at noon from the Point YMCA on Division St.  For information and a registration form to download, click here
  or call 715.342.2980.

On Saturday, March 6th, consider walking in the Point Bock Run event. This event is Central Wisconsin's premier running event (yes, are walkers welcome). To learn more about this event, click here

Help Us Promote Walk Wisconsin 2010

This holiday season, please talk to your relatives and friends about walking with you next June 5th at the annual Walk Wisconsin Marathon, ½ Marathon or ¼ Marathon events.  As a special feature of this year's distance walks, we will be the first to experience the new Central Wisconsin sculpture park just adjacent to the Green Circle Trail.  Walking is such a great way for family and friends to spend quality time together while training.  Watch for registration information in February.

Remember, making time for yourself to stay fit is NOT selfish.  A "healthy you" will allow you to love and serve others with even more energy....and isn't that the real joy of life??

Thought for the day

Those of us involved with the Walk Wisconsin initiative recently received a framed Buddhist proverb from one of our members.  It simply reads, "If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is KEEP ON WALKING."

May you have a safe and happy holiday season~
