Greetings!

May 5th, another performance of the 2012 Opry Season featuring the Poncan Opry Band and special guest, Jim Winters.

The Poncan Opry Band consists of Bucky Fowler on lead guitar and vocals. Rob Loren on fiddle; Steve Gordaneer, steel guitar; James Hocutt, bass guitar; Mike Price, keyboard; Chuck Case, drums; and vocalists Karla Fowler and the Fowler Sisters: Kristine Saner, Kelcy Mohr and Kandace Sovereign.

This month's performance features guest singer Jim Winters who started playing and singing at an early age. His first live audiences were in school shows and productions and then in church. After winning a talent show sponsored by a local radio station at the age of 14 he got invited to perform on local opry shows and the rest is history.  From Bob Wills swing to Hank's Honky Tonk and Country styles, Jim gives them all his personal touch and strives to entertain his audiences and make sure that everyone has a good time.
So if you've not been to a show, get your tickets ($16) and enjoy the traditional Classic Country music, along with Today's Country, Classic Rock 'n Roll, Rhythm 'n Blues, Bluegrass and Gospel.

Thanks again to the sponsors
Team Radio (Country KPNC 100.7 FM), Head Country BBQ, and Heartland Western Outfitters.

May 10th, Thursday, "The Alley Cats" return to the Poncan.

This is the 7th performance for our Poncan Theatre 2011-2012 season ticket holders.  If you do not have season tickets, individual tickets are still available for this Poncan Theatre Signature Event.  This group has been here before and has been a big hit to young and old alike!  They even had the heart to serenade long time theatre supporter, Geneva Alston, on her front porch during a past visit.

The Alley Cats are a perfect blend of musical talent and comedic timing. The Cats never miss a beat as they sing the greatest songs we all know and love from the 50s and 60s. Their interaction with audiences, combined with their spontaneous humor, makes each show refreshing and exciting. They have won over audiences nationally as they relate directly to the crowd with lively humor, engaging stories, and audience participation that appeals to young and old alike.

BehindtheScenes
BEHIND  THE  SCENES   -  THANKS   FOR  YOUR   SUPPORT

Thanks everyone for your support of the 20th annual "Taste & Tasteless" fundraiser!  We wanted to open with a big thank you to all the businesses and individuals who helped make this year's event a success.  In addition, a small group of talented folks met for Tasteless Committeeweeks in advance to script out this year's fundraiser, and we would like to recognize them, however, tradition has it that the committee remain anonymous (for obvious reasons)!  We went undercover to identify these folks, but only came up with a picture - and no names.

This show was dedicated to the late JoAnn Muchmore, director for the past 19 years, and was directed this year by Christine Rich-Splawn who did an outstanding job of carrying on the tradition.   Phil Bandy was recognized for his his 20th appearance in the show and Sandy Bishop has been a mainstay as the wardrobe mistress, which can be a rather demanding task for a show like this!  The show would not be the same without the music under the direction of Leslie Rardin.

Again, a special thanks to the following businesses and individuals that made this event a tasteful evening to remember.

  Thanks to You

In the last issue, we ask for help with two missing themes from  the 1997 and 2005 "Taste & Tasteless".  Thanks for your responses and to Terry Huston for helping fill in all the blanks!

1997:  "Pre-Prom Party at the Poncan"
2005:  "The Sister Cities" Chinese Fire Drill, or "Hu Crean Up At Brack Dust Casino?"

We ask Terry how she remembered, and she admitted she was somewhat of a pack-rat and actually had many of the programs from past performances.  She also recalled that T & T would sometimes fall on prom weekend and that was the reason behind the theme "Pre-Prom Party at The Poncan" in 1997.  Terry also offered to give some of her keepsakes to the Poncan for the scrapbook maintained by Geneva Alston.  So we proudly award two tickets to the Poncan Opry to Terry for helping us fill in the blanks and for her gift to the Poncan scrapbook.
