Labor Day 2011 Fire
Response and Recovery | |
Our community has, once again, shown its willingness to work together in the event of a disaster.
Hundreds of volunteers have viewed www.HelpOurCounty.org to register and review volunteer opportunies available. Montgomery County United Way has been asked by the Montgomery County Emergency Operation Center to coordinate donation and volunteer opportunities.
- MCUW distributes the in-kind donations and funds to organizations that are working with those affected by the event, both for immediate needs and long term recovery.
- MCUW is the fiscal agent and as such responsible for the stewardship of funds entrusted to its care.
For updated information, view www.mcuw.org to find out more about donation and volunteer opportunities available.

Montgomery County United Way provides community resources that assist area residents when answers are needed.
Visit: www.mcuw.org
and click on:
Youth Yellow Pages (bottom right hand side of home page) - this resource guide for youth answers some hard questions that youth might have. Some topics include: Eating Disorders, Traffic Laws, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Mental Health, Assault, or Employment Tips.
Living Senior (Click on Get Help - Information & Referral) - this guide gives seniors and their families information about health, available home services, insurance and legal help. This popular guide is the right information for our valuable older citizens and their family members.

The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC) kicked off their annual Montgomery County United Way campaign for their employees recently.
Pictured above: (l to r) Angie Rhodes, Calleen McFerren, both with TWDC, Anna Vidurri with The Friendship Center (the kickoff guest speaker), Lorrie Parrise with TWDC and Dale Gray with MCUW.
The Woodlands Development Company is one of MCUW's Pacesetter companies, those that run their campaigns early and are active in MCUW's volunteering opportunties.
Last year, The Woodlands Development Company raised $55,000
During this year's kickoff, TWDC's Co-President, Tim Welbes, who is a past MCUW Board chair, said "he believes that MCUW is a good investment in our community because he has seen, first hand, the funded programs at work, benefitting someone he knows personally."
If your company would like to be involved in improving lives in our community, please call Dale Gray at 281-292-4155, ext. 227 or Jennifer Burket, ext. 267 for more information.

Work groups are being formed to work toward facilitating access to affordable and quality health care in Montgomery County. MCUW and several community health and business partners worked with the Texas Health Institute to produce the 2011 Montgomery County Health Assessment.
Seven recommendations with best practices were part of the assessment. MCUW is coordinating efforts with other community organizations to form strategic work groups that will create lasting solutions for this very important issue.
Read the Executive Summary then email:
MCUW's Health Care Coordinator Kim Borneman, kim@mcuw.org to get involved. |

Thanks to MCUW Board Members Angela Allen and Mary Cubillas, Splendora ISD children got the opportunity to have access to new "Socks and Undies" for back to school.
Pictured above: (l to r) Angela Allen, Gary Gardner, Deitra Inkster and Mary Cubillas.
Through the assistance of a number of Splendora area businesses that served as drop off points for new socks and underwear, MCUW expanded the 7th annual "Socks & Undies Drive" to include Splendora ISD. The original drive was started by Dr. Sam Faysal of Dynamic Health and Wellness in Conroe.
The expanded drive raised over 1,100 pairs of socks and underwear. Thanks to the generous donors of the East County area!
Parents who need access to these clothing items for their children should contact their Splendora ISD school counselor and then redeem the voucher they will receive at New Caney New Horizon's Resale shop located on Community Drive in New Caney. |
