Helping Families Move Out of Poverty!
|
| How your Dollars Make a Lasting Impact | Montgomery County United Way's equation for lasting change is: The work of over 100 Strategic Investment volunteers + 5 priorities identified for lasting community impact + Maintaining partnership with 24 Funded Partners and Grantees + $3.75 Million in donor dollars invested in over 50 programs = Improving over 216,000 lives in Montgomery County. At the end of March, over 100 volunteers started the six week process of reviewing MCUW Funded Partner requests for funds and visiting agency locations to review programs that fit within MCUW's five priority funding areas. The priorities are: "Moving People out of Poverty", "Helping People Cope with Challenging Situations", "Facilitating Access to Affordable & Quality Health Care", "Preventing and Treating Drug & Alcohol Abuse" and "Providing Temporary Assistance in the Event of a Crisis".
Your investment also funds MCUW services like Success By 6 (early childhood education initiative), Days of Caring (connecting volunteers to those in need of light repairs including home owners and non-profit organizations) and Information & Referral (referring citizens to non-profit Health & Human resources available in the Montgomery County area). |

The Mission Northeast |
The Mission Northeast's
new Executive Director Pam Dickson presented an updated report of the 3 year MCUW funded program "Project Independence" to the Responding to Crisis Impact Council at their monthly meeting this week.
Project Independence was a MCUW pilot program that brought The Mission NE and Lone Star College - Montgomery together to offer long term Mission clients the opportunity to expand their educational options so that they could obtain jobs with sustainable wages. The impact that this could have in our community could mean breaking the vicious cycle, of sometimes, generational poverty.
Over 200 students have participated in Project Independence over the term of the 3 year grant. It has changed the lives of their families. Pam Dickson said "We are extremely grateful for MCUW in helping these people with a hand up instead of a hand out." 70% of the people involved in Project Independence have not returned to The Mission NE for additional assistance.
This year, the Creating Independence Impact Council will be investing in similiar programs to "Move People Out of Poverty", the #1 priority funding area for MCUW. Look for additional articles in upcoming MCUW e-news. |
