Conroe Fire Chief Ken Kreger with City Campaign Coordinator Dana Shaw at Cajun Festival. |
City of Conroe Driving for Dollars
|
| City of Conroe Fire Chief Ken Kreger got revenge on the City of Conroe Police Department this week when the Fire Department entry won the first heat of the Executive Chair Race at city hall. Ten city employees raced desk chairs around a track set up on the top floor complete with racing flags waved by Employee Campaign Coordinator Dana Shaw.
Fire Chief Kreger lost the contest between the fire and police departments to see who would raise the most money for Montgomery County United Way. By not raising the most money, Fire Chief Kreger had to wear a giant chicken suit and direct traffic at the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival held last weekend.
Other activities planned are a Book/Movie/CD sale, Bake sale, Wear your Favorite Team Jersey Day and Wear a Halloween Costume to Work Day.
The City of Conroe's goal is to raise $17,000 for MCUW. To find out how to set up a corporate campaign for your company, please contact Dale Grey at 281-292-4155, ext. 227 or email dale@mcuw.org |
| CISD New Comers Center Receives Recognition |
Montgomery County United Way's H.O.P.E. (Hispanic Outreach Professional Enrichment) celebrated its 1st year of organization. H.O.P.E. non-profit professionals meet bi-monthly to hear speakers making a difference in serving the hispanic community of Montgomery County. Conroe Independent School District's New Comers Center serves all who are new to the district but have seen a rise in the Hispanic population over the last couple of years. The Center works with parents and students to negotiate the cultural differences, establish lines of communications between families and educators and connects them with community resources to provide aid when needed.
H.O.P.E. has expanded to include subcommittees that meet on a regular basis to explore solutions for serving the community. If you would like further information regarding MCUW's Hispanic Outreach Program, please contact Maria Jordan at 936-760-4179, ext. 222 or email maria@mcuw.org |

A BIG THANKS to our
area Corporations who continue to participate in our annual campaign by either contributing corporate dollars or allowing their employees to utilize payroll deduction as a easy way to give to MCUW! In many cases, companies do both plus match the donations given by their employees.
