Emerging Regulatory Developments for Chromium Plating Processes and Perfluorinated Mist Suppressants

Federal and state regulatory agencies continue to push more stringent controls and restrictions on chromium plating processes and the use of perfluorinated mist suppresants in the surface finishing industry. This webinar will provide the latest developments on the following critical issues from national experts:

  • EPA's residual risk and technology review proposed rulemaking to impose more stringent air emission controls for the Chromium Electroplating MACT standard, expected August of 2010
  • Increasing regulatory pressures to restrict or ban the use of perfluorinated mist suppressants for plating processes
  • The NASF efforts with EPA headquarters, EPA Region V and the State of Minnesota to assess the use, potential impact and possible control options or restrictions for perfluorinated mist suppressants
  • How the use of perfluorinated mist suppressants may impact biosolids from POTWs
  • The Department of Defense's proposed policy to restrict the use of hexavalent chromium

NEW! Web-based Salt Spray Course

The AESF Foundation is pleased to announce that we will offer our Corrosion and Salt Spray course in an entirely web-based format. The course will be conducted in four 2-hour sessions on November 16, 23, 30 and December 7. All comprehensive material from our curriculum will be covered, but you never have to leave your home or office! Sign up here!

Similar to our webinars, you only need a phone and internet access to participate. There is an online chat feature that will allow you to ask questions and interact directly with the instructor, and the course manual will be provided so you can follow along with the PowerPoint presentation. This course is ideal for plating managers, process engineers and lab personnel, although the educational benefits apply to a wide range of surface finishing disciplines.

At the conclusion of the course, attendees should:
  • Have an understanding of the basic corrosion principles and how they apply to properly conducting and evaluating the ASTM B-117 salt fog accelerated corrosion test
  • Understand operational parameters and the proper method of preparation of the salt spray solution so they can conduct tests successfully in their respective plants
  • Have the necessary information and guidance for properly choosing test samples, protection of bare surfaces, proper mounting methods, and the methodology to be employed in evaluating test results
  • Gain sound professional advice on record keeping, QA/QC tests to be conducted, and other maintenance requirements of the salt spray chamber
  • Be able identify which test is best for specific purposes at their respective facilities, attendees will learn about all the other accelerated corrosion tests that are commonly employed on parts that have undergone metal finishing {other tests include the CASS (ASTM B-368), Humidity (ASTM D-2247), Corrodkote (ASTM B-380) and the Kesternich Test (German specification DIN50018)}
