SUR/FIN 2010 Recap

Surfin2010Pic2 After many months of planning, SUR/FIN 2010 has now come to a successful conclusion. In addition to an increase in the number of exhibitors on the show floor over last year, attendance in Grand Rapids was 30% higher than in 2009. The show's programming was designed to maximize participation among attendees and exhibitors while keeping everyone on the show floor for as long as possible. SUR/FIN 2010 offered something for everyone!

In addition to providing high quality sessions on environmental sustainability, technology trends and the economic picture, NASF partnered with the Defense Department's ASETSDefense initiative for a 2-day program on surface finishing, defense vehicles and emerging coatings technologies. Furthermore, the West Michigan Chapter of the Chemical Coaters International Association presented a session on Organic Coatings and the Center for Automotive Research gave attendees and exhibitors their views on what's in store for the automotive industry. Plans for SUR/FIN 2011 in Chicago are already underway and you can be assured that we will be building on the momentum established this year.

With an eye on 2011 in Chicago, NASF will be expanding our international outreach efforts, rolling out a new "Aerospace Roadmap for the Future" and looking for additional ways to provide value for your membership in the association. Tempering these actions is the reality that our industry faces serious regulatory and legislative initiatives that could severely impact job and captive shop operations. These include EPA's rewrite of the federal chromium air emissions MACT rule, OSHA's consideration of nickel hazards and its enforcement effort on chromium operations, a new EPA Superfund cleanup mandate that specifically targets metal finishing, a major overhaul of U.S. chemicals laws and a likely U.S. phase-out of PFOS-based fume suppressants.

Your continued support of NASF is critical as we face these challenges. We appreciate your participation and confidence in NASF, and welcome your input on any issues that are of concern to you.

July 27 Webinar: 12:00 - 1:30 PM, EDT

Emerging Regulatory Developments for Chromium Plating Processes and Perfluorinated Mist Suppressants

Federal and state regulatory agencies continue to push more stringent controls and restrictions on chromium plating processes and the use of perfluorinated mist suppresants in the surface finishing industry. This webinar will provide the latest developments on the following critical issues from national experts:

  • EPA's residual risk and technology review proposed rulemaking to impose more stringent air emission controls for the Chromium Electroplating MACT standard, expected August, 2010
  • Increasing regulatory pressures to restrict or ban the use of perfluorinated mist suppressants for plating processes
  • The NASF efforts with EPA headquarters, EPA Region V and the State of Minnesota to assess the use, potential impact and possible control options or restrictions for perfluorinated mist suppressants
  • How the use of perfluorinated mist suppressants may impact biosolids from POTWs
  • The Department of Defense's proposed policy to restrict the use of hexavalent chromium

Do not miss this valuable opportunity to stay informed on how these emerging challenges can impact your business. Sign up today!
