Military Vehicle Workshop-SUR/FIN 2010
NASF is pleased to announce that the Department of Defense will hold its 2010 Military Vehicle Workshop in conjunction with SUR/FIN.
The April 8, 2009 memo, "Minimizing the Use of Hexavalent Chromium," from the Under Secretary of Defense requires that new US weapons systems avoid the use of Cr6+ materials and processes, except when there is no viable alternative. At the same time European REACH and RoHS regulations also restrict the use of Cd plate on military vehicles sold or used in Europe. Yet military vehicles still require the best wear and corrosion protection currently available. This workshop is intended to be an interactive forum for military vehicle manufacturers, the supply chain and DoD users:
- To learn about technologies available and under development for substituting environmentally unacceptable materials with available alternatives that provide equal or better performance.
- To share needs and lessons-learned between suppliers and users on what works best, reduces costs and improves the overall product.
- To interact with the community of coatings experts and suppliers to bring up problems and provide solutions.
The cost of participating in this workshop is included in SUR/FIN's Conference registration fee. |
NASF Chemical Indices- Available Now! The SFMRB (Surface Finishing Market Research Board) continues to expand its proprietary chemical sales database beyond the 2007 report. Its purpose was to define the NAFTA (Canada, US and Mexico) proprietary metal finishing chemical market 4-year sales trends by extending the database defined in 2007. The data was used to calculate the percentage changes in (25) total markets and could never be accessed by their competitors. No data was reported unless the reporting company participated in the 2007 as well as this survey. The report revels sales of each of the 25 proprietary chemical groups was strictly confidential is reported on separate pages. The 2006 sales level for each chemical group was established as base 100. The index for the following three years represents a percentage change in total sales from 2006. Furthermore, chemical sales for electroless nickel plating on discs continues to be non-existent in North America. Also note that surface conditioning, a new category, is indexed at base 100, from 2008. Each following page shows the four yearly indexes in graphical form. A summary statement on the trends is included. By consulting the 2007 SFMRB report (#10) these indices can be translated into approximate sales levels.
The NASF Chemical Indices cost $350.00. For information on how to purchase this report email Courtney Mariette. |

NASF Liability Insurance Available for Affiliates & Branches We have also recently received some inquiries about insurance coverage available through the NASF which benefits our branches and affiliates. All of the officers and directors of our branches and affiliates are covered by the NASF Director & Officer (D&O) liability insurance that NASF maintains. In addition, NASF offers to affiliates and branches General Liability insurance coverage at no additional charge to the branch or affiliate. This coverage protects against claims of bodily injury and/or property damage alleged to have been caused by the negligence of the affiliate or branch. Although few associations ever have to face such a suit, the risk is present in all of the "public" activities of the branch or affiliate. This coverage is sometimes referred to as "trip and fall" liability. It is important that you contact NASF to obtain coverage. No coverage will be provided unless and until the NASF Headquarters receives a request from the branch or affiliate. This coverage is not automatically provided. Just contact John Flatley at (202) 457-8404 or jflatley@nasf.org with any questions. |
NASF/AESF Federal Tax ID Number Over the course of the past several months, NASF has received a number of inquiries regarding whether branches can use the Federal Tax Identification Number of the AESF Foundation. A Federal Tax ID Number may be requested by a financial institution or a governmental agency. Since many of our branches are not incorporated some have assumed the tax status and ID number of the AESF Foundation could be used. This is not the case. Each of our branches and our affiliates should have their own unique Federal Tax ID number. We recommend that you complete the attached IRS Form SS-4. This form is very straightforward and you should receive a number very quickly from the IRS. You may also complete the form on line at www.irs.gov. We remind you as well, that in some circumstances, our branches and affiliates are required to complete some income tax filings. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding these matters. |
2010 AESF Foundation Training Calendar
The 2010 AESF Foundation Training Calendar is now available.
