Consumer Trends in Home Building |
|
During the 2010 International Builders Show, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) presented some of the consumers most wanted design features such as:
9 foot ceilings Open kitchen/family room Walk-in closet in master bedroom Insulated front door Great room Low-e windows Energy efficient appliances and lighting Security systems
The report also cites that demand for housing will be impacted by the fact that we will be adding 100 million people in the next 30 years (according to the U.S. Census bureau), the percentage of the population getting older is increasing, there will be more diversity, and more people are living alone.
The 55+ population is seeking smaller, more affordable homes. They are more interested in main floor master bedrooms, windows that open easily, adequate storage space, bathroom and kitchen aids, as well as safety features like an entrance without steps.
