Greetings!
Despite the decorations still on my front porch, in a blink Halloween has come and gone. Soon we will be saying the same about Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and even the year 2011. Time seems to be flying by faster and faster!

Don't Blink.
I was awakened at 3 a.m. by new and strange pains. I waited until our alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. to tell my husband. By 8 a.m. I was in the hospital. I labored for exactly the same amount of hours that I had worked the day before, 8 till after 5. Around 5:25 we witnessed the season's first snow as it began to gently fall. Seconds later, our son was born. I remember the moment that I looked into my husband's eyes and knew that our already wonderful life had just gone from black-and-white to color with the gift of our miracle baby. In that beautiful moment full of love and life, time stood still. It has not stopped flying by since.
That moment was sixteen years ago tomorrow. Our son is now driving, in his first relationship, is an avid hockey and video game player and with out a doubt, one of the very coolest people that I have ever known. He will be headed off to college in less than 3 years and to his own great life after that. There is this wonderful awareness that we parents have that the time we have with our children is limited and fleeting. Because of this, we are pretty good at staying mindful about making the most of the time we have with them. And even with that focus, time still manages to fly by.
The truth is that we are often much less mindful of how quickly time flies in all of our other relationships, in the whole of our lives as well as in our careers. One of my favorite lyrics comes from a country song: "I'm not here for a long time. I'm here for a good time." It reminds me not to take time for granted or to risk the assumption that there is time enough to do anything over or again or that we will have the time to make things better in the future. Or that there is any time that matters at all but the time we have right here in this very moment.
Making each moment matter is key to living a full life without regrets. The greatest learning for me in this year of all years is to live and love big in every moment and chance that I get. It is the gift that came from actually acknowledging that "I am not here for a long time".

10 Great Career Success "Moments"
You Don't Want You or Your Clients to Miss
Just as in life, great careers are the result of making the most of the moments we are given. Some "moments" are more ripe with opportunity than others. Some "moments" are key points in time while others are just key points. Your key is to recognize these "moments" and to be intentional about what you make of them. The following are 10 such opportunities for which times waits for no one! In other words, don't blink!
1) There is only one chance to make a great first impression. And it can happen in as little as the first 15 seconds.
2) In any new assignment or role, you have only 90 days before people will make up that they know all they need to know about you.
3) All relationships must be built way in advance of when you need them.
4) Your relationship with your manager is the most important one at work. Nurture it daily.
5) Your actions speak louder than all of your words combined.
6) Your credibility is built one moment, once action at a time.
7) Your reputation will always precede you. Honor and protect it.
8) There are only 60 days remaining to achieve your goals and commitments for 2011.
9) There are only 365 days in 2012. Invest and use each one wisely.
10) Your legacy is the sum of what you did with all of the moments you've been given. Create it with intention.
