Greetings!

As very little can be achieved alone, this month's Your Corporate Success focus is on the relationships that are critical to your success.  Last week I launched this key topic by introducing the Quantum PowerPack tool.  Your PowerPack is who you run with that have your back and challenge you to be the best you can be through their words, their actions and most powerfully, their example.

This week's focus in on employees.  Whether you are one, have one, know one or all three, how do you proactively create employee relationships that enable success?

Read on for how to create relationships that ...

Enable Employee Engagement!

One of the biggest casualties of the Great Recession is employee engagement.  Whether this is true for you or the people that work for or with you, lack of engagement is a clear success derailer for both the individuals and the organizations for which they work.  It's going through the motions of work, physically showing up, getting it done but leaving the passion, discretionary effort and innovation at the door.

The price for disengagement is huge.  Experts estimate have it's cost just for American companies in the billions in lost opportunities and diminished returns.  But what about the the personal cost?  Remaining less than fully engaged in what we do places us at high risk to let three very insidious anti-success "S's" into our lives: "Sleepwalking", stagnating and settling!

The strongest way to enable employee engagement is through creating authentic relationships.  This is the only approach with a lasting effect on engagement levels and it is one that does not necessarily require money.  What it does require is even more scarce these days; focused effort and time building authentic one-on-one relationships.

People disengage when their work no longer feeds their need to feel valued and "seen".  When employees are left to feel like commodities, easily replaced, taken for granted or advantage of, they will find other venues to fill this need.  It is those venues, sometimes outside of work, sometimes other places of work, that will gain the benefit of their passion, creativity and expertise.

With layoffs, increased workload for "survivors", and the stress and behaviors rampant in economic tough times, employee and organization success today mandates special due care.  And "care" is the magic word!

Investing the time and effort to ensure that employees know that they are not just "in jobs" but they are "in relationship" is the engagement enabler. This level of relationship requires just one thing: the feeling that they are truly cared about.  And cared about as individuals with unique talents and needs that are respected and supported, not just as a means to a business end.

The responsibility to establish this relationship belongs to both sides.  A relationship is not something that one creates for or to another, but rather "with".  Who initiates this effort is not important.  What is important, is knowing that neither the manager / employer nor the employee will achieve their full success without it!

So be an engagement enabler!  Build the work relationships that make a difference in how you engage in what it is that you do and how those counting on you do as well!

Your personal success is counting on it!

Next Steps:
Review the relationships that you have as an employee and/ or employer.  Which require attention for full engagement and success?  Initiate that effort now.

 Your Corporate Success Members:

Review the work relationships in your PowerPack.
What key ones are missing?
Which require further development?
Create your plan to close these gaps?

Wishing you your best life and biggest impact!

Sincerely,
Ann
