Greetings!
Everywhere I look now people are talking about "success", whether it's LinkedIn groups, magazines or talk TV. Could it be that in this great recession our view of success is being forced to change? Is a person less of a success if their position was eliminated? Or if their business is not profitable? Or if they are not delivering the same as before to their corporation's bottom line? Or how about if they decided to put work on the back burner in the midst of all this to focus on their family?

The Most Urgent Thing You Must Do Now!
We all know that we should probably have a "living will" and many of us do. The purpose of a "living will" is to ensure the integrity of how our life will end in the case that we're not able to communicate our wishes directly.
But what about a "living I will"!
In a random poll of 100 people, I found ten times as many people who have "living wills" than who have plans and goals for their life, "living I wills". That means there were ten times more people who are clear about how they want to leave this world than who are clear about what they want to accomplish while they are in it.
The one thing that you must do now is get clear!
Create your "living I will" by listing all of the things that you refuse to have regrets about in your life i.e., taking risks, making time for those you love, becoming the best you can be, making a significant difference. Make this your "living I will" list. For each item on the list, describe what your success in it looks like.
Further reinforce your "living I will" by making a list of your "living I will nots". Often what is most important to us becomes even more clear when we think through what it is we will not do versus just focusing on what we will.
Hone your "living I will" until it is very clear to you what success means to you in your life. Once you have clarity on what it is, the path to achieving it becomes quite clear as well. Without this clarity, the most powerful question to ask will become "what did you miss".
Just as "living wills" are empowered by sharing them with those closest to us, even more so are "living I wills". The very act of sharing what is most important to you and how you define success, will be a key cornerstone of your legacy.
It has been quoted that only 6% of the population has clarity about their life purpose. I could only find an even smaller percentage who could say what success is to them - although everyone had many thoughts about what it takes to achieve it!
In saner times, perhaps these percentages might be tolerable. But in times where society's success measures seldom lead to happiness or a life without regrets, or speak to the integrity, it's critical that you make the effort to define success for you!
It is the most urgent thing you must do now!
