"If ever stressed-out corporate
America could use a little coachtime
it's now.  Trust in big companies
is at an all-time low.  Babyboomers have been burned; GenXers aren't expecting the corporation to take care of them.  Under the circumstances
employees are much likelier to go outside and get independent advice to help them be better managers."

Greetings!

This month we have explored the key changes that the New Economy will bring as well as the key mindshifts and skills that leaders must develop in order to enjoy success in this new world.  Add all of this change and demands to the current levels of organizational and personal stress.  It becomes very clear that major self-care is critical not just for success, but for survival!

The 5 keys to taking care of yourself starting now!
60 Seconds to Critical Self-care!
Leader Musts for today and the New Economy!

Departing from the old "leader knows best" model to one in which you welcome constant challenge and uncertainty requires that you bring your "A" game everyday - both intellectually and emotionally.  That requires critical self-care.  Critical elements to include in that care are:

1. A Balanced Attitude
Being both positive and realistic will serve you best as you it will keep you from negativity and being seen as a Pollyanna who just does not get it.   Attitudes, and people, who do not serve you are cynics, pessimists and anyone else who primary sucks energy from the room versus helps to fill it and you up!

2. Create Space & Sanctuaries

Give yourself both the time and place that enables you to step back and re-gain or maintain your perspective.  You will be deep in the work and the doing of work.  You need to balance that with enough "being" and thinking time to enable to access your wisdom - and keep your sanity!

3. Establish Your Lifelines
As Ferazzi coaches in his bestseller "who's Got Your Back", invest in and create the lifeline relationships that will not allow you to fail.  Characteristics of these are peer, honest and willing to be brutally honest so that you hear what you need to hear when you need to hear it.  These relationships will encourage, support, grow and feed you like no others.

4. Include your Emotions
Know that leader presence is about bringing your emotions to your leadership in ways that inspire the results that you desire.  Learning how to manage from
your emotions versus pushing your emotions down not only makes you a much more powerful leader, but gives you the healthy emotional experience that is a critical key to self-care.

5. Remain Centered and true to your Stance
Knowing and choosing to honor your core values in all of your moments is not only key to your strength, brand and credibility as a leader, it is the key to staying centered and balanced in all that is most important in your life.  Especially in stressful, challenging times it is key self-care to acknowledge that your career is what you do - not who you are.  Success then comes from being healthy enough to bring all that you are fully to what you do!  To learn how to establish your Stance, go to the Your Weekly Success archives.
