Economic recovery does not mean that things will return to the way they were before.  The New Economy will require a new kind of leadership.  The key changes that leaders and organizations must make to succeed in this new world will be our focus for this month.

60 Seconds to New Leader Mindsets!  
Leader Musts for the New Economy!
 
Given the changes coming with the New Economy (see July's Quantum Endeavors e-Zine mailed 7/9 for the major strategic implications), the role of Leader will be forever changed.  Leaders will have to acknowledge and embrace that they will be leading in a state of constant crisis.  Global, political, environmental and energy constraints and instabilities will ensure that the ways of yesterday will be just that - the ways of the past.
 
Those who will succeed in the new economy will be those who embrace the new mindsets required versus continue to hold on to what served them well in the past.  The pre-requisite mindshift required is that there is a New Economy and this new economy requires both mindshifts and new skills.  Leaders and organizations who do not see or adjust to this will certainly struggle.
 
So what do you have to do to enjoy success in this new world?  The first step is to shift to several key new mindsets. The first mindshift required is that from here on out, all opportunities will show themselves through
crisis and change.  Shift from looking to douse the fires that arise in crisis to looking for the opportunities that the fires spark either internally or in the market.  The old mindset is to firefight with the goal of getting things back under control and as they were. The new mindset is to find the opportunities in the instability and never let things return to where they started.
 
The second mindshift required is to move from believing that Leaders are the ones with the answers. The fact is that no one has experience with what works in the New Economy. Given that, the leaders and the organizations that will be most successful will be the ones who let go of the reins and let the answers will come from anyone 
and everyone in the organization.  Engaging everyone in search of both opportunities and solutions will be a key competitive advantage for those that do. 
 
The third mindshift is to know that success will come to those who seek it for a cause bigger than themselves.  In the age where issues are global and very complex, it will be the leaders and organizations who are willing to work for the greater, bigger good versus just their own purposes that will be most successful.   This mindshift requires full and total commitment to relationships as
the real work of work.  While this has been a key differentiator for success in the past, in the New Economy where the issues are huge, trust is low, and stability is a thing of the past, only relationship builders will survive.
