 Greetings!

In an economy when we are all being asked to do more with less, with more profit and cost pressure than ever, layoffs continuously in the news, we can get pulled into what feels to be a swirling vortex of "must do's", "can do's" and "should do's" that can make us feel out of control, buried and even overwhelmed!  Add to that our natural summer cadence leftover from our youthful school days that wants for more recreation and less work this time of year and voila - and you have the perfect summer storm!

So how can you have your best summer yet?

3 Steps to Your Best Summer Yet!

Step #1: Set Your Perspective

Microscopes, Telescopes and Mirrors -
What's your view?  Are you looking at your life through the lens of a microscope or a telescope?  When feeling overwhelmed, try stepping back and looking for the big picture!  We can get so focused on the "trees" that we can lose sight of the "forest".  What is the meta view of what is going on in your life, the one from 50,000 feet?  What can seem so important can become much less so when we give our self the gift of "perspective".

If the 50,000 foot perspective does not gain you a sense of focus and calm, then it is time to look in the mirror!

Step #2: Set your Anchor

The Majors -No Majoring in Minor Things -
Looking in the mirror is the only way to find your anchor.  Your anchor is the few values that define what is most important to you at your core.  We spent last month looking at the ways that minor things can distract us from all that really matters.  Only by looking in the mirror, looking inside, not outside, will you be able to find what is most true and therefore most valuable for you.

List The Majors for you.  Assess how much you have been honoring these and commit to do choose to do so more!

Step #3: Chart Your Course

Life's Moments versus Life's Minutia-
Once you are clear about The Majors, you are ready to set your course to honor them more in every moment.
Chart your course for your best summer ever by creating summertime goals or milestones making sure there is at least one for each of The Majors.  The most effective self-management skill to stay on your course is the ability to recognize when you are in Life's moments versus Life's Minutia.  When you find yourself starting to get sucked right back into sweating the small stuff, then simply repeat Steps 1, 2 & 3!

Repeating this process of gaining perspective, centering and choosing to be the best you can be in life's moments is a success strategy for all seasons!

The Majors - June 4th Edition

It struck me last week as I read the lists you sent me of all  the minor things that can distract you on a daily basis, just how very, very long the list of minors things is!

In contrast, the list of The Major things that I have amassed from leading a Core Values exercise for well over 500 people during the past three years is actually quite short.  And as such, even the most diverse of us, are truly and deeply connected at our very core by what we care the most about.

The
Majors include love, family, making a difference, some measure of success, impact and happiness.  How richly we honor The Majors in our lifetime adds up to the legacy that we build - one moment at a time.

I include the following for my Dad who is celebrating his 83rd birthday this week and for all of you who choose to honor The Majors in your life.

The Fullness of a Lifetime
(written in tribute to Terry Endsley
and dedicated to Frank S. Farrell)

The fullness of life
Is not measured in years,
Money, achievement,
Titles or tears.
A life rich in integrity
Lives past its brevity
A legacy true
Fills the void I leave
No need to grieve.
Count not my days
Add up the ways
My love still repays
The fullness of a lifetime.

Your Success Step:
What are your Majors?  List them.  What percent of the time do you honor each?

 Your Corporate Success Members

Your Majors (Core Values) have a prominant place in your plan for your best life and bggest impact.  How can you honor them more in your moments?
Wishing you a wonderful Summer full of big moments and little minutia for your best life and biggest impact!

Sincerely,
Ann
