It is hard to imagine that our first week of school could have begun more smoothly. I was so pleased to welcome our students and parents back for another school year.
This week I was blessed to be driving a bus load of students to SpringHill for the high school retreat in Evart, Michigan. By the time you read this, many high school students will have renewed their commitment to Christ. Continue to pray that our students will not only learn lessons in math, in social studies, in science and in language arts, but that they also experience the "love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge".
Ephesians 3: 17b-19
I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the goodness of God.

begins Friday, September 9, 2011,
with a Jean Day!
Students will be allowed to wear jeans, OCS T-shirt or uniform shirt and shoes for a suggested donation of 2.00.

Hosts Needed for International Students

We have two international students that need host families for the 2011/12 school year. There is a Chinese boy and a Chinese girl who need separate housing.
If you are interested, please contact Randy Johnson (doc@oaklandchristian.com) or Laura Hall (lhall@oaklandchristian.com), for more information and to answer any questions you may have.
Financial aid is available for host families.

Elementary Art
| The Art Room is in need of tiny silver objects and flat, clean foil objects for a 3rd grade Alien Robot project. Examples are washers, ballpoint pen springs from the inside, pop tabs, lids and pans from small and medium size take out/disposable foil trays, brad fasteners, etc!

Prayer Corner

Please pray for Oakland Christian!
Parents are welcome to pray together next Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in Mrs. Prantera's office (near the back of the Little Lancers University). The prayer group is considering changing date and time. If you are interested in participating, please contact Karla Everett keverett@oaklandchristian.com.
Additionally, please pray for the following:
- Faculty and Staff: Praise the Lord! 100% of the faculty and staff have a family praying for them this year! Please continue to be in prayer for them as they serve our Savior through Christian education. Pray for new and changing faculty and staff as they transition into their new roles.
- Students: Pray for students as they begin to transition back into the school routine. Pray for new students and students moving up to kindergarten, 6th grade and 9th grade for a smooth transition. As school moves full force ahead, as homework piles on, as lack of sleep is building up, that the Lord gives generously His wisdom and peace that surpasses understanding!
- International Students - Pray for International students as the newness has worn off and they may be hitting cultural or language barriers at school and at host homes. Pray that two Chinese students find a host home.
- SpringHill - Praise God for all He did in the hearts and minds of students this past week. Praise God for the teachers, student and friends that connected on a more intimate, deeper level.
- DetroitSERVATHON: Pray that the Lord would guide the steps of Steve Kozak and those that are planning this incredible event that reaches out in love and deed to our local and global communities.
As always, pray that Jesus Christ would be the center of all we do! |
