As residents of Scarborough for the last 55 years, 84-year-old Phil McKim and his wife June have relied on The Scarborough Hospital countless times for care as they were raising their two sons. However, it was the "great success" June had with her second knee replacement this past February that compelled Phil to share their story.
On February 8, 86-year-old June was admitted to the General campus for a knee replacement on her left knee. June's right knee had also been replaced seven years ago at the hospital and, as Phil explains, the experience this time around was "like night and day."
"Seven years ago, June was shipped out to a rehab hospital for her physiotherapy following the surgery, but this time she has been having all her physio at The Scarborough Hospital and is receiving great care."
Phil also has high praise for the physician who performed June's surgery, Dr. Pervez Ali.
"Dr. Ali was just super; we couldn't have been happier with him," said Phil. "He even showed us how he used a new form of surgery which puts the stitches underneath the skin."
Since the surgery, June has been coming to TSH twice a week for an hour of physiotherapy and Phil is happy to report that his wife can now walk without even the use of a cane. |
On March 28, TSH President and CEO Dr. John Wright presented some of the hospital's outstanding recent successes to the Board of Directors of the Central East LHIN. Dr. Wright was joined by TSH physicians David Rose and Howard Clasky, and Board Chair Stephen Smith, as the CE-LHIN learned about the amazing journey TSH has been on over the past four years and the hard work of everyone in the organization.
