Patient delighted with personal touch and "community feel" of TSH

Greetings!

The Scarborough Hospital is pleased to present the latest edition of @issue - our publication addressing current issues impacting healthcare in our community and the ways we are working to meet those challenges. The March 2012 edition features information on our dramatic improvements in HSMR, hand hygiene and wait times, recent investments to enhance patient care, our dramatic gains in employee and physician satisfaction, and the many successful partnerships that are improving access to healthcare for patients in our community.

Patient delighted with the personal touch and "community feel" of TSH

Jesus (Suso) Rodriguez was so overwhelmed by the kindness, compassion and quality of care he received at The Scarborough Hospital that it brought him to tears.

"They made me feel like one of their own family," said Suso. "I have never, ever experienced that. I've been in other hospitals before overnight, but they just don't measure up to The Scarborough Hospital."

NPs provide end-of-life care at the bedside

Roland Munro was dying. High-risk surgery that resulted from a sudden fall and post-operative complications left the active, 87-year-old musician in unbearable pain and his children with a heartbreaking task - preparations for end-of-life care.

To provide comfort for their father in his final days, Roland's children enlisted support from Sandra Del Signore, a Nurse Practitioner at The Scarborough Hospital and member of NPSTAT (Nurse Practitioners Supporting Teams Averting Transfers). This clinical outreach team is a collaborative effort by the Central East LHIN, TSH, the Central East Community Care Access Centre (CECCAC) and the Village of Taunton Mills to provide nursing home residents with the right care at the right time in the right place.
