TSH is MY Scarborough Hospital

Greetings!

As part of the Excellent Care for All Act, every hospital in Ontario is required to create a Patient Declaration of Values and to consult with its community. At The Scarborough Hospital, we asked the members of our community advisory committee to take on the task of drafting our declaration. To do that, they undertook a series of consultations with community members that resulted in this draft Patient Declaration of Values. Members of the Scarborough community are invited to comment on this draft. Do you agree with what's here? Are there elements you would have included? Not included? These comments will be reviewed and will inform the final version which will be posted on the hospital's website on June 8.
Premier McGuinty celebrates at TSH

Premier Dalton McGuinty chose The Scarborough Hospital, Birchmount campus as his backdrop to celebrate National Nursing Week on May 10. "This is the place where you care for the most important people in the world: our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, our friends and neighbours," he told the more than 100 nurses on hand at the event. "I thank you for the dedication and devotion you bring to looking after these people for us."

Celebrating achievements of Scarborough residents
Celebrating three stars and one urban hero

The Scarborough Walk of Fame was hosted by Debra McGrath and Colin Mochrie on May 12 at the Scarborough Town Centre. The Scarborough Hospital congratulates three of its own as this year's inductees: Dr. Dhun Noria, TSH Chief of Laboratory Medicine; Dr. Vicki Bismilla, TSH Board of Directors; and Dr. Harold Stein, former Chief of Ophthalmology.

Congratulations, also, to Harvey Walker for winning an Urban Hero Award, which is an annual awards program that recognizes those community members and grassroots level heroes whose personal efforts, sacrifices or contributions have made a significant impact to a cause, a person or a group in our local community.

One of three Nursing Hero award winners

Robert Chau, an RN in the post-anaesthetic care unit at the Birchmount campus, has the honour of being one of the three top Nursing Heroes awarded by Hospital News, a national healthcare newspaper.

"This is a big honour for me, and it inspires me to be a better nurse, always, every day," Robert says.
