Volunteers: LadiesFocus groups on the "ideal patient experience"

The Scarborough Hospital has embarked on an exciting planning process that will help us create a stronger organization to better serve the residents of Scarborough. Called "Mission to Action--Our Five Year Plan to Strengthen Clinical Services at TSH", this process is designed to create a plan that is based on patient needs--current and future--and support ways to improve the care delivered to the hundreds of patients in our care each day.

As part of that work, a number of focus groups are being held to reflect on the concept of "the ideal patient experience."  Going forward, the ideal patient experience will be one of the tests by which the hospital's clinical service plans are evaluated and it will be used as an important input into process improvement plans.

If you have recent experience with The Scarborough Hospital, either as a patient or family member/friend of a patient, and would like to share your thoughts about how we can improve the patient experience, please attend one of our focus group sessions:

May 20th, General Campus, 7 p.m.
May 25th, Birchmount Campus, 7 p.m.

We will be discussing elements of the experience that include customer service, wait times and quality of care. We will also spend some time discussing (and sampling) in-patient food and provide feedback to Booth Centennial on the new patient gowns.

Please register for one of these sessions by calling 416.438.2911 ext. 6790, or e-mail amales@tsh.to

Agincourt Community Services Association seeks new members for its board of directors

Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) is an innovative, growing, non-profit agency, which provides a variety of much needed services for Scarborough citizens. ACSA runs food banks as well as programs for pre-school children, youth, parents, seniors, new immigrants and the homeless.

Leaders in the United Way's Action for Neighbourhood Change with programs in both Steeles L'Amoreaux and Dorset Park, ACSA's goal is to empower people to help themselves.

ACSA is looking for candidates to replace Board members who have reached the end of their term. The current Board is welcoming, experienced, and well organized. It meets once a month from September to June and each member is also on one committee. There are community events Board members are invited to attend.

ACSA's Board is a policy making board. In other words it makes the major decisions and oversees their implementation by the talented staff and many volunteers. Experience in one of the areas of responsibility of the Board--finance, fundraising, policy creation, board training and education or community outreach would be an asset.

To apply or if you have any questions please contact Paul Rook by e-mail at prook@sympatico.ca. Include a brief statement of why you are interested in joining the Board and attach your resume. To find out more about ACSA visit their website at www.agincourtcommunityservices.com.
